am I crazy (nav ???)

Ok ... I've had my car a month or so and LOVE IT

Anyway, yesterday I noticed a buncha green flags on my nav which signify schools. Why in the world would the Acura/nav/sattelite program those. I mean, I don't have kids so I really don't care where they are.

I take it it for safety purposes ...

Any thoughts?

isn't it a tad presumptious to think that ALL Acura/Honda owners are gonna wanna know where schools are?

Hospitals I can understand but jeez ... especially for a car with such a young demographic.

Am I the only one who thinks this is odd?

It's not like they stand out and obstruct the map or anything. Plus, most schools have school zones with low speed limits, so it might be useful to know when one is coming up.

Let's See....

Car has 4 doors.. seats 5.....LATCH anchors.....

Now why would any parent buy this vehicle?????

Just because you do not care where schools are does not mean that no one else does either..

I do not have children, and I actually do care where schools are.. here's why.. I have a bit of a lead foot.. seeing schools on the nav actually alerts me to the possibility of children crossing streets, or even police in the area.. Good reason to bring the speed down a bit...

(please do not take this as an attack.. post is not meant that way)

C'mon man ... everyone and their mother magazine-wise says the TSX is the sportiest 4-door since sliced bread so don't try to sell me on the fact that it's great-for-families cuz quite frankly, there's prolly 30 cars better suited for familes.

I was just merely stating why I thought it was odd. I quite frankly haven't noticed them before yesterday and thought something was wrong.

Yo bro ... Take a look around, us 30 year-olds are in the minority on these boards. I'd say most TSXers are in their 20s hence making the demographic YOUNG !!!!

And also, while I'm at it Einstein, you CAN'T turn off the school icons. Read your manual.

I agree, there are other cars better suited to families.. but how many of them look as nice as the TSX inside and out???

And remember, the nav mapping software is also shared with the MDX, RL, TL, Honda Pilot, Odssey, Accord.........and so on...

Many of these vehicles are owned by Soccer moms in middle America

Just remember... Speeding Tickets in school zones are impossible to get out of........... I know this from experience

But of course car forums like this and thousand others are frequented by young PWs I think most of us know why.

But this is ONLY a TINY slice of the demography don't you think ???
How can you draw a broad conclusion based on what you observed ONLINE ???

If I remember correctly, I think NO LESS than 100K TSXs were sold in US since it first came out.
Do you think A-TSX has even 1000 (1%) regular posters ?

Heck you joined 3 years ago and only has 141 posts. lol

vast majority of tsx drivers i've seen are 40+; forum demographics are skewed.

of course, i don't have to worry about green flags on the navi....

Then I guess you've got the answer to your original question for this thread.

Solution options:
a. stop using the nav to aviod green flags bothering you
b. just use the green flags as "watch out for chidlren/cops" signals

Then you should feel much better.

In the meantime...

the green flags weren't bothering me, I was simply wondering what they were and if they could be turned off.

Sheesh ...

ventulo, you don't have kids now, but did you ever think that one day you will?

Also, whether the demographic is people that are in their 20's or 30's isn't that around the age range that most couples start having children?

I think that displaying the schools is very useful eventhough I don't have children right now.

Just my

Why do you feel it nessecary to have an antogonistic tone in the voice of your post?? I find more and more you can't ask questions on these boards cuz people just get plum stupid, arrogant, nasty and sarcastic.

And no, for the record, I don't wanna have kids. But still, this isn't even about that. It's about me seeing flags on the nav and ...

1) wondering what they were
2) Seeing if I could get them off (if I could)
3) Wondering if anyone else thought the same

And you know what? I really don't need your attitude, dabuda ... "Where is this going?" Who the hell are you?? Do me and us all a favor and don't grace the boards of people who have questions with your elitist presence if you're above answering them.

The flags show schools.

You can't take them off.

They are of no concern to me

One possible reason could be that schools are used as emergency shelters in major disasters.

Hence, it would make sense that they are there, so in case of a disaster and you need to evacuate your home, just head on over to the nearest school.

Why the hell seing green glad on your navigation screen is a problem is beyond me. Shouldn't you be watching the road instead of watching the navigation screen looking at green flags while you drive?

Numbnuts ... I never said they were a problem. If you bothered to read (which you didn't), I said that I never realized they were there and was wondering if they could be turned off.

Ya know ... Guys like you are so typical of this board ... bunch of immature young wannabe pimps who are all above answering questions.
