Alpine SPS-690A Installed

I just installed the Alpine SPS-690A. I am not impressed. I was playing Madonna's Confession of a Dance Floor CD. Yes, the sound is cleaner at around volume 22. But pass this mark, and the speakers make a horrible popping sound and flutter! How come other users never mentioned this crackling/flutter sound....and only raved about how amazing the sound is?

I know that this has to do with how much wattage the speakers are receiving. I heard that under-powering a speaker by a lot is far worse than over-powering it by a little.

My Alpines are being way under-powered right now since I'm using the factory amp. Alpine recommends 50 W RMS for these speakers. I really don't want to get an amp though. No money now.

Anybody else with these speakers, or after-market speakers in general, and are powering them with the factoroy amp, experience flutter/pops around Volume 22-25? (Bass, Treble, and Fader settings all at Centered).

I had the exact same problem with my Alpine 690A speakers. I never figured out what it was and opted to get avincar's speaker upgrade which I think is excellent! I have yet to really push the avincar 6X9's past the 0 bass setting, because I don't feel as though I need too.

Ok well that makes me feel better that somebody else has the same problem. I thought I had a defective pair.

I think they are just being underpowered. Once they are hooked up to an amp, there shouldn't be any more flutter/pops.

I haven't noticed any problems from my 690A's, but I've also never pushed the volume beyond 19. I was temtped to go out into the garage and try it but, frankly, it would painful and possibly damaging to my ears to do so.
