I got tailgated this morning --- by a frigging soccer b**ch in a big-ass SUV.
The broad was riding my ass like there's no tomorrow....maybe her hubby doesn't let his cowgirl ride ...
I wasn't that slow, we were doing round 70, not on the Interstate but an "Extension" to US1.

This other thread about warding off tailgaters got me thinking -- How about faking braking ? How about rigging the brake lights so that with a button one can make the brake lights come on but not have to really hit the brake ...this is a nasty trick thou.

Yes I feel ya. This must be some kinda f..king trend. I get tailgated at least twice a day, and ALL of them are female driving SUV or van. Sometimes, they give me the "hurry-the-f..k-up" hand gesture.

I'm not trying to bring up a sexual discriminating issue or saying all female drivers are @#$%. If I'm married, I would certainly buy a SUV for my wife cuz of safety reason. But I'm seeing more and more female drivers in big ass cars. And that scares me.

This doesn't work. My old Volvo had rear fog lights - bilateral, red, and bright like brake lights - and I'd flick them on to ward people away. Very little was gained.

My suggestion - chill out. Nothing will work.

Basically you lightly squeeze on the brakes with your left foot while still accelerating with your right foot. You wont slow down much at all because of the acceleration, but the brake lights should come on (never checked as I can't see my own car). It can wear pads quickly, but its certainly fun to do.

i think the reason why these soccer moms or people driving suv's tailgate because they feel like they're the king of the road, since they're basically higher up or taller than a car.

also, they think they can intimidate people who just drive cars since they are higher up and feel like they're in control of the road and just say get outta of my way since i have a behemoth suv. i've seen suv's in back of other suv's and they don't tailgate, probably cause they're at the same level in height, so its just like driving like a car behind another car.

i got tailgated by a soccer mom too in a burgandy suburban....i let her go by and on her rear window was a calvin sticker with him pissin on "imports" so i roll up next to her and she flips me off....after that i just cut her off and slammed the brakes tailgating one, sticker 2 ,flippin me off 3 that did it... she never hit me but i refused to go the speed limit i stayed in front of her for about 2 miles going 5 below the entire time hehehe

Here's one time when diesels come in very handy. The VW TDI folks are always laughing about just flooring it in situations like this, because this causes black smoke and soot to belch out of exhaust right into the face of the offender.

SUV is such a big hit here is because the American culture worship BIG things...big and plenty = good....that's our psyche.

You go to other developed lands and they drive cars - Mercedez, BMW, Volvo - they made SUV to satisfy our craving.

There is some truth to this SUV thing...The girls feel safer in them they all tell me...even though I tell them that more people are injured in SUV rollovers ... but anyway.

My wife wanted a new vehicle...she had a nice 4Runner....whats she want ?

If your car is going over 30 MPH and someone is tailgating you, give your windshield a LONG sustained shot of windshield washer fluid. Half of it ends up flying over the roof and hitting the windshield of the car tailgating behind you. The faster you are going, the further back the spray will hit their windshield. Repeat as necessary.

This is the truth.

My ex-gf used to drive an Isuzu Trooper. It rolled like heck, but it could drive over anything. She drove badly and as she did, she'd say to the other drivers (out loud, as if they could hear her) "I'm bigger than you". I guess that was her reasoning for driving the way she did. I fully accepted that I was going to die whenever I got in the passenger seat.

thats the exact type of thing I do to asshole tailgaters. Also if there's two lanes I'll slow down until they change to pass me. When thier back tire gets next to my front I speed up and stay in front of them. Eventually we catch up to a car in thier lane and they're forced to get behind me again....thats when the real fun starts. Of course I slow back down. The 3rd car starts to pass so the tailgater gets behind them when the get next to me I speed up and pass the 3rd car. They get be hind me yet again and it starts all over. Tailgaters are dumb enough to keep falling for it too.

I for one enjoy fucking with tailgaters

maybe you could just turn your lights on if its during the day. i sometimes mistake the normal taillights for the brake lights when some people turn them on while driving.

Ahh memories.

Used to have a small jeep that I used for wandering around in the desert. I had mounted a big, cheap foglight to the rear bumper to give me better night visibility when I was backing up. When I started I just wired the thing to the normal back up light circuit. Worked well enough.

Then it occured to me to wire a seperate switch so I could turn it on manually. The original idea was to light up the area behind the truck so I could set up a campsite or whatever. But I think I only used it for that purpose once. What I used it for most was that whenever anybody tailgated at night, or came up behind me with their high beams on, I'd just quickly "flash" them. Amazing how fast they'd back off.

Not especially useful during the day though.

I love the idea but becareful who you flash behind...breaking abruptly or lane blocking are bad enough to piss them off. Blinding them temporarily can cause accidents or better yet arrested if you flash an unmarked police car... ouch...

When I owned a GSR one of the guys on the boards got fed up with tailgaters. So he modified his rear washer nozzle to point up and back. Some bitch is on his tail he blasts her with washer fluid. Enough to scare them off. It was even funnier if they had the sunroof open or it was a rag top and the top was down !!
