Adieu to my beloved 05

For a variety of reasons, this was the best car I've ever owned, without reservation. It was also the only car (and I've owned a bunch, from all over the world) that I owned for longer than 3 years and 40K miles. Though we had the car almost 8 years, it was my DD for almost 6. I put over 125K of the 178K miles on it. The car is as perfect as it can be for something that old, with that many miles on it. Everything works, right down to the lights in the seat heater switches. The only thing that I had to replace that wasn't a wear and tear item is the catalytic converter heat shield. And though the TSX paint has come under some fire here, it still cleans up amazingly well.

I finally did sell it since the age and miles concerned me, and it seemed a reasonable thought that anything that broke at that stage of the game was going to be expensive. I won't deny that I had a tremendous emotional attachment to that car for reasons I won't bore you with here. It's been four days and I miss my car, but.... life will go in.

Although this would be a good opportunity to try something different, I've decided to stay with the Acura brand for a daily driver. And as much as I've made no effort to disguise my ambivalence toward the second gen TSX, there's a 2010 Basque Red Pearl over Ebony with 17K miles on it nearby that probably has my name on it. There seems to be no chance of finding a low mileage 08 within a reasonable distance, so I've resigned myself to moving into the updated car. As always, I'd prefer silver, but this is an attractive package. Like most (I assume), I hate looking for, and then buying, a car so I'll most likely concede to the process and buy something sooner rather than later. We still have the 07, so I have no plans to abandon this forum. I've trolled the second gen forum for quite some time, and I must say (with some consternation), it seems to have little of the charm that we've instilled in this community (just my opinion of course). It is much newer, so maybe in time.... But, assuming I do buy a newer model, I suppose I'll have to occasionally impose my lack of patience and reluctance to suffer fools gladly on that bunch too.

A well-written note of goodbye. Sorry to hear your steed is gone, Simba; though your reasoning for moving on makes sense. It's good that you still have the 07 to soften the blow.

Good luck with your decision and the process of getting your next car.

Though my TSX is not yet near retirement, (my 06 has only 49K miles), I've wondered about what I would do when it is time. Like you, I'd consider the second Gen TSX, (with reservations about the front end styling, the extra weight and the numb electric steering), and also the new Accord, which looks good. I think either would be fine, but have to admit there are features and an added dash of exclusiveness to having an Acura. I would not consider the ILX.

Best of luck, and regardless, do stick around.

Still holding on to my 06 tsx for at least another year. Had the rear brakes replaced for the 1st time. My traveling days have slowed down for now. Good luck on your next car.

I feel it is my goal as a car owner to purchase, pay off, and drive as long as possible the vehicles I own. It is amazing how much $$ you save by not having a car payment. I will feel the same way about saying goodbye when it comes time to retire my 06 TSX (only 95,000 miles). I'm always wanting and looking for more tech, power, room, and luxury; but, the TSX still delivers 99% of what I need everyday. The wife's 08 RDX comes pretty close to duplicating the driving experience of my TSX (another vehicle I will drive until the wheels fall off).

I've driven other cars from Acura like the +07 MDX, +09 TSX, +09 TL and +10 RDX as loaners somtimes up to a week at a time. I always like the feeling of driving my 06 TSX; which, I like to call my 4-door coupe.

Simba:

I am sad to hear that a fellow 2005 Tsx owner sold his car.

I have also owned my car for a long time and have an attachement to it. My car only had 3 miles on the odometer when I got it. I am the original owner. This is also the first new car I have ever owned.

Can you share some car stories with us? Maybe some long distance trips which you enjoyed. You won't bore us.

Look at it as an opportunity to get into something new; maybe a comparison later on perhaps? Who knows, you may see the car again on this forum with its new owner.

Farewell good sir! I agree, the TSX is very difficult to get rid off. I feel like I'm just breaking mine in.

The last 4 years have been difficult ones for me on a personal level. Through much of that time, my TSX (and my job) have been my only real links to a more enjoyable, stable, period in my life. I don't doubt that my keeping the car as long as I did was in a large part due to this connection. Unfortunately, my nomadic lifestyle is still a fact of life for me, but when presented with the opportunity to pass it's care along to someone else (and at the right price), I finally admitted to myself that selling my car was probably the healthier thing to do.

I don't mean to overstate this. Our cars represent various things to each of us. For some (most I suppose), it's an appliance. More costly than a refrigerator or a dishwasher, but for many it serves the similar purpose of doing what it was meant to do with as little hassle as possible. For others, like those of us here, it's presence in our lives provides much more. We take pride of ownership, and we actually enjoy our cars. For some, I suppose it's a symbol of achievement or success. For me, my 05 TSX represented a link to the past; one that I was reluctant to let go of.

I did buy that 2010 Basque Red TSX (that I mentioned above, and I lied, it has less than 15K miles on it). It's certified and like new, so hopefully it will treat me as well as my 05 did. I'm not going anywhere, only now I have a 2nd gen TSX with which to share my experiences and observations. Feel free to stay tuned.

Although I'm not on this forum often, I have been here a long time and have appreciated Simba's posts. Probably the reason I remember them is the unforgettable avatars he uses. I at least admire Simba's taste in cars and women.

"I won't bore you with the story" is man code for "I've got a tough guy reputation to uphold, so I'm not going to tell you my emotion-filled story".

How do I know this? Well, I had a pair of shoes that I wore almost every day that I finally had to throw away. I had quite a lot of emotional attachment to those shoes for reasons I won't bore you with here.

I'm chuckling, and for reasons that some may know. Your observation is perceptive, and I congratulate you. I must confess to spending a substantial amount of time on a post that went into much more detail in regards to where I am now. But as I struggled with posting it, it occurred to me that for many, I would be skirting, and perhaps crossing, the dreaded TMI line. I mean, after all, this is a forum that allows us to talk about our cars.

I don't consider myself a tough guy, and trust me: I'm not afraid to tell my life's story. But that said, there's a time and a place for everything, and I'm not really convinced that this is the place.
