Adding Coolant!

Hey guys!

My coolant level is just above the "Min" line. Anyway, I want to top it up to the
"max" line in my overflow tank. Can I get the coolant that I need for my 07 Acura TSX from Honda? I wasn't sure if Acura had some kind of a special coolant that Honda wouldn't carry?

Also, can anyone tell me exactly which type I need (no owners manual)

Thanks much!

If your coolant is at the min. level with a cold engine, you're good to go. It should only be at the max. level if the engine is fully warmed up. The honda/acura coolant is fine, and not that overpriced if you actually need some.

The coolant you get from a Honda dealer will be just as good as the one you get from an Acura dealer.

Yes. Acura fluids are just repackaged Honda fluids. Only in rare cases does an Acura need an Acura specific fluid and that's only when there's no Honda equivalent. I know this from working for Honda/Acura for three years.

What kind of fluid might that be? Should this ever be the case, can Honda get the Acura fluid that it needs and still perform the service/repair?

Thanks much!

Honestly I don't know. I've seen instances where there was specific Acura fluid, but it was for newer cars like 08 and newer, but that was a few years back and I can't remember what they were. Nothing that a first gen TSX owner would need to be concerned with.

Yes, Honda can always get what they need from Acura, or any other make's dealer, if they need it.

Remember though, Honda does not have access to the Acura parts catalog though. A honda parts advisor would have to call Acura to get the part number, price and availability first.

Yeah just get the Honda Type 2 Coolant; the prices are only a few dollars more than Prestone/Peak at Wal-Mart.

The bottle I bought says it's Honda/Acura Type 2 Coolant, so they're the exact same thing in this case.

You know what's funny? According to Honda, their oil is actually made for them by Quaker State or Prestone or whoever. I can't remember, but when I called over there to get my wholesale cost the parts guy there was telling me who it was. Its not like Honda makes their own fluids usually.

I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case, actually. I've read in a few spots that you're supposed to use only the Honda coolant because it's borate free, but the bottle of Prestone I have in the garage is also borate free.

I was a bit puzzled, but seeing as I had already bought the Honda coolant and the difference in price was about $2, I didn't think too much into it.
