It's just a ploy to get you into the dealership so they can sell you another car. Unless you are already interested in getting another vehicle, I wouldn't bother.

If there was nothing in it for them they wouldn't have sent it.

Having said that, if you are in the market for a new car, take the drive.

This is quite strange and funny.

My Acura salesman called this morning too.
He said there's a crazy demand for '08 TSX's and he has "a list a mile long" of
people looking for a slightly used TSX.

He said he's unable to find them from other dealers and was wondering if I
would consider trading mine in for a new '09. Said he'd give me an amazing deal.

I said, "Funny, you didn't me much of any deal on the one I have now..."
He said he's been authorized now to cut deals on the new ones for late model
trade-ins.

I have a CGP/Quartz with Navi. According to him, finding Navi cars is "much harder
than you would think."

I asked him if he saw my car when I was in for a noisy seat fix. He said no.
I explained to him that's it's pretty modified now and it's only going to be worse.
I thought this would turn him off, but no...

He asked me to bring it in this afternoon. He said if he likes the way it looks,
he'd like to borrow it and put it in the showroom...

...

He'd give me a TL or RL as a loaner he said.
"Just for a week or so."

I said... um, maybe. I told him I'd be in on the 24th to try the new one, but he's
about begging me to come in asap.

Wonder what is really going on here.
Sounds quite strange to me.... First call I ever got from them.
I'm not selling anything!!

But I'm interested to see what's happening with this whole issue though...

As others have said, this dealer will buy your TSX at any time. This isn't any kind of personal offer. I get these letters all the time from the local Honda dealer wanting my daughter's Element. If you are in the market for a new car, bite, but it sounds like you are happy as you are, which means, don't waste your time.

luther, this is most likely bs. my father sold hondas and acuras and i sold cadillacs for a while, it's simply a ploy to get you in the door. my pop n i weren't always the managers favorites because we wouldn't succumb to such methods. fyi, the dealers idea of full market value is most def going to be different than yours

MMsTSX, your situation is so peculiar that i might take the saleperson up on their offer -- nothing wrong with a free, new loaner for a couple weeks. however, i'm willing to bet your ride never hits the showroom floor.

Is it coincidence that I got a card for a free 41(?)-point courtesy inspection, and a certificate for an oil/filter change when i do it,... and the one week they're doing it happens to be the week the new TSX' hit the dealers (4/21-25)?

If you're suggesting their doing it because they feel the 09 won't sell? then yes, I think it is a coincidence.

Well, I think a pretty clever explanation for it is to create artificial demand for the 09s. Think about it:

1. Potential buyer walks into onto the Acura lot.
2. Dealer is constantly getting trades for 1st gen TSXs, and selling 2009s. Result: plenty trade-ins, few 2009s.
3. Buyer sees the new model is selling really well, and wants one as well.
4. Dealer can make more $$ by saying "they're selling like hot cakes, I am not offering discounts"

Maybe it's just me but I it makes sense ;-)

I received one for my '98 Integra and was insulted on the spot, but I like their cars too much to be daunted by a sleazy promotions department.

The important thing to understand is that it's absolutely worthless, there is no buy back program, all you are doing is buying a new car and using your old car as trade in and you aren't going to get any kind of special discount. The fact that you would have fell for such a ploy probably emboldens the the salesmen to work you even harder than he would if you hadn't mentioned it at all. The flyer nothing but a piece of paper with words on it. The demand they speak of and everything else on there is a lie or at best misleading wording.

Wackura is right, its just a ploy, I wouldn't even give it the privilege of calling it a marketing strategy.

You can make more $$$ by selling your used TSX privately.

Now it would be fun to go to the dealer just to bash on the 09 TSX just for fun!

Like others have said, it's just a marketing tool. Dealerships have been doing this forever. Nobody really wants your specific car. I bought brake pads at a Honda dealership years ago for my Accord. It was the ONLY time I've ever been there. I don't even have the car anymore, but once a month or so, I still get stuff from them that they want my car. Really, you guys desperately need a 99 Accord with 160k miles on it?

wait.. you guys don't get free oil changes?
I was told I get free oil changes for the life of the car, or as long as I own it...

I'm kinda confused now about what's free or not at the dealer...

Your salesperson gave you that to sweeten the deal for you. It's like throwing in all season floor mats or some accessory. Not everyone gets it.

funny thing is i will never ever buy my next acura from acura of peoria. my 06 is my first new car and it was the worst buying experience ever.

got my dad to look at the 08 tl-s and made him buy at acura north scottsdale. 30 minutes in and out and got the car for 36k. now if they offered me a tl-s for my so desperately needed 06 tsx i would be game.

to me a good dealership wont try these gimmicks to get you back in the door. if you love you acura and like the dealership you bought it at, you will go back when youre ready for a new one. i dont like pushiness and dealerships should treat you right from the second you FIRST walk in the door.

I just received the letter the other day. It's just a generic letter they send out to get you to come in and buy another car. My letter stated that they were looking for cars from a certain year and mileage. The funny thing is that my 06 doesn't meet the first criteria, and my 14k doesn't meet their 30k criteria.

Dealers don't make money from selling new cars; they do it from trade-in's and financial add-on's (gap insurance, extended warranty, etc.) So if they can get you to trade in your vehicle and buy a new car, they'll make money off of your old car and your new car.

It's a ploy to get you to come in. They have a larger profit margin with used cars.

Hmmm, I didn't get any offer for my car but first I received a bill for $45 for tag registration about a week ago and yesterday I got a check for $76 from my dealer for a tag refund.

I don't quite understand why but I'm not gonna complain either.
