Which Acura would you TSX owners "upgrade" to?
As an owner of an everyday-driver 6MT in SoCal traffic, there are days where I get the itch to buy a softer, quieter, automatic Acura. At first, I thought if it ever came down to it, it would be the RL hands-down.
With paddle shifters and lots of power, I could retain some of the spirited driving I currently have in a less-harsh environment. I thought it would be a no-brainer -- until I saw the new 300-hp MDX:
Wow. As a current father, this bad-boy would be able to fullfill all of the practical family needs and retain the luxury that I'm looking for in a sedan.
However, the most likely choice (and smartest) would be to have no more car payments and just do more mods.

I voted TL, but only because the next-gen TSX wasn't on the list. If I did go TL, it'd be the new Type-S. It looks pretty good. For my next car, I'd prefer RW or AWD.

For myself, probably the next-gen TL, but I honestly would like a sports car rather than another 4 door. Like you said, I'd rather mod the TSX to keep my interest.....its all I need or want right now. A purely weekend car like an s2k or used NSX would be great to have on the side, but as a daily driver, the TSX is great.
But...I voted MDX because my wife's car will need replacing first, and that's probably what we would like to get if we had that kinda money.

What Would Don Draper Do?
i voted RL, but the MDX is a close second.
it'd be 1) RL, 2) MDX, 3) RDX, 4) TL
but i guess it depends on how much i have and how much i'm willing to spend. they're all great cars, and i'd be lucky to have any one of them.

See...the way I read the question is if I HAD to upgrade to another Acura. I like the TL and I would definitely go for a Type S IF it weren't front-wheel drive only. An SH-AWD TL-S would be my vote. But that doesnt exist (yet) so I would go with the super sweet MDX. Otherwise, I am happy with my TSX.......until they come out with SH-AWD on a model other than the RL.

I'm going against the grain and saying RDX. For some reason as a big guy I'm attracted to small cars, and if I'm going lux-UV, I'm gonna hit up the RDX. I've been in a few at the dealer and even toyed with the idea (breifly) of letting go of my 06 TSX for one, but I'll be staying in this bad boy for a few years longer.

I had the opportunity to see the new Acura RDX in person a few weeks ago. That is a nice small SUV! I wouldnt mind driving it at all!
I like the smaller SUV's (RAV4, CRV, RDX) then the bigger ones.

The MDX would be my wife's ultimate "soccer mom" car. The DVD entertainment system, traffic NAVI, and bluetooth makes it very tempting.
Time will only tell if I'm able to hold out of another money trap...
Looks like MDX is in the lead....

It's weird that the performance/luxury division doens't have a coupe or sports car to move into after the TSX. The only reason I have a 4 door right now is because its easier to place my kids in the backseat.
once they can climb in and strap themselves into their seats, a BMW 335 SMG or E46 m3 SMG might be the direction I'd go.

With now and Acura constraints it would be the TL....but consider 3 series coupe, Accord 6 coupe or next G35 coupe...or new G35 if a test drive is great.... 09 TSX coupe or 4door may be what we would jump for if here now...

But I see where you're going... I think the RL is attractive and it handles pretty decent for a such a large heavy car.
Anyway, I don't think I'd really get an RL even if I had the means... it is just too much car--a rolling computer center. I'd never ever buy an SUV, so forget the MDX and RDX. The TL is out too--the suspension just doesn't hit that happy spot, and they are way too common (around here anyway).
So I guess I'm stuck with my '06 TSX.

I'd rather keep my TSX then. None of the current Acura models (except TSX, of course) appeals to me. I never like the 3rd gen TL, so it wouldn't be the one. RL is too big and lack of 6MT. I wouldn't mind going with AT only if it is an SUV. Both RDX and MDX are nice, but no guts in terms of towing. For my towing needs, all small size SUV's are useless.

If I had to switch over, it would be the RDX. My reason is the type of car prefer when I was looking at cars. I really loved the BMW 1-series style, a small four door hatch. The RDX is the most similar to it.
However, I've grown too fond of my tsx

In regards to the tranny, my main dissapointment with Acura has been their inability to have an auto tranny that is better paired with their great engines. To me, the TSX, TL, and RL 5AT's continue to be an achillie's heel of otherwise great motors. The ratios are spaced too far apart for my taste. Mercedes-Benz has had 7-spd autos for sometime now and Lexus now has the first 8-spd auto in the LS.

If I could choose any Acura without thinking of price I would go with the new MDX with Sport and Tech packages. If price mattered I would go with the TL or maybe spring for the TypeS.

The same is true for the other Acuras. They don't need a V8--the engines produce more than enough power, smoothly and reliably. They just need the Automatics to make better use of that power.
