Acura TSX vs Honda Accord ( Hint? )

Anyone know?

The Honda Accord and Acura TSX are using the same engine 2.4 (i-vtec). Automatic Transmission (5 speeds) Only the TSX have an option of steptronic.

But why this two same engines are producing different horsepower? The TSX has 205bhp and the Accord 2.4 only has 166bhp?

Anyone know? What are the thing or part makes these 2 engines produce different horsepower?

ECU? Intake Manifold? Camshafts? Comprression ration? or the whole clyinder head? ... ?

I know that the Accord has a lower compression ration and redline. I'm not sure if this is b/c of the piston head shape and/or stroke.

I thought it was cuz they made modifications to the engine (bored out some valves or something) and the nice cam profile we get? Im just poking at it hahha im not really sure

I myself have owned both cars with this motor (04 Accord and 05 TSX) and I couldnt believe the difference in power from driving each one.

The TSX runs premium fuel, allowing the timing to be advanced further. Secondly, it's a higher compression engine with a higher redline. There's also a more aggressive intake and exhaust (I THINK).

I asked a mechanic technician and was told it is because of the compressino ratio...

TSX gets a higher compression ratio, different cam profiles for both the intake and exhaust, different intake and exhaust track tuning, and also different ECU calibrations. A lot of stuff if you're thinking of taking a K24 in the accord and making it run like the k24 in the TSX.

They are using a little different engines.

The TSX are using K24A2 (RBB) 2002+
200hp @ 6800rpm / 205hp @7000rpm
166lb-ft @ 4500rpm / 164lb-ft @ 4500rpm
Red line 7100rpm
C/R 10.5:1

The Accord are using K24A3 (RAA) 2002+
160hp @ 5500rpm / 166hp @ 5500rpm
161lb-ft @ 4500rpm / 160lb-ft @ 4000rpm
Red line 6500rpm
C/R 9.7:1

The head on the engine is different. TSX is a i-VTEC head that revs much higher with a higher compression. Accord engine uses a lower compression head and therefore generates 40 horsepower less. There are many things that also contribute to this including the cams, the valves, and the intake manifold, and exhaust manifold design.

the head is not 100% the same... you couldn't just take the Accord engine and make it's distrbuter run from 9.7:1 to 10.5:1 and get 205hp like the TSX. It wouldnt' work like that because the head is still different.

its like B18b ls integra and b18c gsr integra and then the b18c5 integra type r engine. ALl of them have different heads.

Do you mean distributor? Even if the TSX had one, it wouldn't affect the compression - just the timing.

just get the head from a k20a, k20a2, or k20z1 and swap it out with the k24 head (doesn't matter which k24). man u'll get so much power outta that sucker. I'd say an easy 235whp

I needed a good laugh! Geez I cant believe no one else hasnt thought of this

The k20 heads you mentioned have differences between them. Putting one of these heads on the tsx motor is great in theory just doesnt work when the motor is still in a tsx. All kinds of problems and issues prevent this from being feasable (A/C, DBW/ECU, etc).

Now if you are thinking of a k24 block with a k20a2 head for example in a civic hatch then we're in business.

The distributer has nothing to do with the compression ratio. Besides the K24 is direct ignition, has no distributer. Accord's K24 has lower compression pistons, the combustion chamber is a bit different, the cam profile is not as aggressive as the TSX's K24 and of course the ecu calibration is way different.
