acura extended warranty for my TSX

my wife's 04 TSX is now reaching 45k miles. i spoke with the dealer today and was offered an extended warranty for another 48 months and 48k miles. i am told that there is no deductible and is identical to current manufacture's warranty from Acura. it would cost me around 2K.

i am more than happy to pay for this. but i want to know if there is any other options? and most importantly, is this warranty truly resemble manufacture?

thanks in advance.

You can buy an extended warranty online. Some places might want to see the car first, though. Also, the extended warranty isn't exactly like the actual warranty...I think it's a limited version of it.

I bought it when I got my car, but he didn't give me much details on it.

2k is too much. Here in Australia where everything is more expensive than in the States, the 48 month extended warranty costs only $750

Anything is too much for an extended warranty. Just more money for the dealership/warranty company. Don't do it. But this has been discussed before...

The car manufactures have done the math and the house always wins when it comes to extended warranties. Have you notice they always expire when you need them the most at +100K.

There is a very high likelihood your car will not have $2K worth of problems in the next 48K/48months of driving. Your car might be the exception to the rule; but, extended warranties are just another way for car manufactures to make more money on very little investment.

A CD or a ROTH would be a better choice than an extended warranty @ $2K.

I agree with mrgold35. However, the decision is yours and may be worth it to you for the peace of mind. Make sure that it is actually an extension of the official Acura warranty (honored by any Acura service dept.) and not just a "warranty" offered by your dealer only.

Great point! Put your money elsewhere.

Chances are the extended warranty is not from Honda/Acura. When I looked into it, the factory will only offer you an extended warranty up until you reach 6,000 miles. After that, you are probably being offered from another company.

If you haven't had anything wrong yet, chances are nothing with fail until the car is over 100K miles. Consider that your car is assembled in Japan, and that it is a Honda/Acura, not an upstart company.

They wanted $1800 for an extended warranty when I bought - added 4 years and 48K to the factory. For my last two cars I paid about $2500 for extended warranties (both Honda) and didn't use either. Not once. Needless to say, I passed on the Acura warranty.

However if you are inclined, shop around. There are multiple companies that offer such warranties and you may get a better deal elsewhere.

41 is not old! Neither is 39, neither is 39, neither is 39... If I keep saying it, will it become true?

I think that if you have navi, it might be worth getting an extension.

That's the reson i got it when i bought my tsx. any damage to it will be a fortune to fix.

I got my extended 8 yrs/100K miles warranty because of my Navi System too. Honda makes great cars but reliability of the Navi after 4+ year is unknown. I live in Los Angeles. I drive less than 10,000 miles a year but I'm on the road quite a bit (traffic). Even though I'm not putting in much mileage on the odometer, my Navi and other equipment is still put into use.

I had the same thoughts about the navi when I bought my 06. So when I got the dealer down to $1800 for 8yr/120k mi warranty, I bit on it.

You could probably replace the nav for $2000. Has there been a lot of problems with Navigation systems failing? My wifes car has 80,000 and mine has 70,000 with no nav problems.

Acura has been using Navi systems since the late 1990s. The Navi system is as reliable as any CD/DVD drive system you have on your home PC or laptop (exact same parts and software, just dedicated to performing one function only).

The only problem you MIGHT experience +8-10 years down the road is the DVD drive motor getting dirty/wearing out in the trunk. By then, you can get a replacement unit for $30 + shipping on eBay.

They're just trying to take your money, DON'T DO IT!! It's a honda, the car is going to last a very long time, you would probably have no problems for another 48k. I have a 2000 accord bought new and it now has 130K and I've had no problems at all with this car.... knock on wood... Hondas are very very reliable, so yeah just put ur money into a CD

Warranty update

I recently traded in my 2004 TSX for a new 2009. My extended Acura factory warranty(7 year, 70000) had been "in effect" for a year after the new car warranty. I received a pro rated refund based on 5 years usage, not one. I was told that the extended warranty is in effect "concurrently" with the factory warranty. I am in the process of optaining a refund on the new extended warranty, and will take out a new one (if necessary) before the current factory one expires in 3+ years.
