Acura CD Error - Ipod Integration

Hello all. I'm a new member with my first Acura! I bought a 2005 TSX non-nav a week ago. I love the car and it is a dream to drive.

My only issue is with the Audio. I bought the car knowing that the CD player was flashing a "CD Mecha Error". Now I know that it's about a $400 fix to have the CD player repaired. But after scouring the threads, I'm not so sure it wouldn't just break again anyway. I'd much rather have iPod integration anyway.

I've looked around the web and found many products that accomplish this, but my question is this:

Most of the product require you to use the CD/Aux button to activate the ipod. If you have a "CD Mecha Error" will it still activate? Will it bypass the CD player and go to the iPod controls without any issues?

I've found nothing on the threads that specify this in particular. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ryan

Welcome to the boards, Ryan.

Just FYI, if you do not get your answer here, you may want to search/ask in the Audio/Video forum in Off Topic.

Can you use other modes such as FM/AM and will it let you switch between AUX and CD upon pressing CD/AUX button multiple times? Is everything on the radio still work like it should except the CD function? If it does then I think it will work. If it doesn't let you switch between different functions, then I think the whole unit might be malfunction. In that case try to disconnect your battery to clear the radio and restart it again to see if it will make a difference. Remember to have your radio code when you do this. If it doesn't, well maybe you could get a used unit for about $200 shipped from ebay. There is an auction that I've found on there that starts at $49 and ends in 5 days. Still cheaper than getting it fix. Good Luck!

I have installed the Isimple media gateway in my 2005 non-navi. I have been very happy with the unit - the audio quality is limited only by the compressed files and the TSX audio system. But in general it works well. 320K MP3 files sound much better than XM.

The Isimple selects inputs with the radio tuning knob shortly after the CD/AUX/XM button is pressed. I *suspect* but don't know that the Isimple would work even if the CD is having an error.

Specifically, if you are listening to AM or FM and press the CD/AUX/XM button, the display will briefly display which input the Isimple has selected. The choices are IPOD, SAT, AUX1, AUX2. During this brief period, you can rotate the tuning knob to select one of the inputs. Of course, if you press the CD/AUX/XM button again, the CD is selected.

I think you could just never select the CD setting, and the CD player error would never give the Isimple a problem.
