ACURA: 2005 model changes

I'm sure Honda/Acura scans these boards to research public opinion, so if you will be in the market for a sports sedan next year (like me) then here is your chance to let them know what you want.

Here are the 2005 changes that I would very much like to see (for the TSX):
1) memory function on the driver's power seat
2) eliminating the rattles I've read about here
3) upgrading the brakes (which are blatantly lacking compared to the competition)
4) making 6th gear taller (so it revs lower when cruising)

If were to see most all these issues addressed in the 2005 model then I would without a doubt buy the TSX -- if not I will be shopping around.

I can maybe see 1 and definently 2 being addressed but don't hold your breath on 3 and 4. Well maybe 4?. So in other words start shopping although I still reccomend you buy the TSX. I have to agree on the brakes though, they are lacking. I almost can't wait until my pads and rotors need replacing, might change the calipers too.

Honda always under tires and under brakes their cars. This might change with option packages on the 04 TL.

Making 6th gear taller? Blasphemy!

I bought this car because the engine is perfectly matched to the 6mt.

You forgot POWER PASSENGER SEAT!

Also, Sun Visor Extender, if they've got another couple of minutes....

No making the 6th gear taller would be blasphemy on a S2000, but not on a TSX!!

Um, how about illuminated steering wheel buttons, if youve got a sec!

I can't see any changes to major systems (like brakes, tranny, etc) so all I can see are things like better sound deadening (for rattles) and little perks like the extender on the visor.

Memory on the driver's seat is stretching it (as would be illuminated steering wheel controls). And forget about power for the passenger seat (unless you want to see the price starting to creep up).

I'm with you on a taller 6th gear - it might imrove highway mileage and make the engine less "busy" at speed. The other 5 gears are just where I'd want them to be though. On second thought, this tranny is so sweet that if they change it at all they're only likely to make it worse. Leave well enough alone.

The other thing I'd sure like to see improved is that boat-like 40' turning radius - just doesn't make sense to me on a car this small. Heck, I wasn't all that thrilled with the turning radius on the much-larger '04 Maxima SE that I tested and was certain that the TSX would be much better. I was floored to find out that the numbers are exactly the same.

Cheers,

Jaeger

I do agree with you, but I think that's "out of scope" for a 2005 model change.

I don't know specifically about the TSX, but front wheel drive cars with fairly long wheelbase/short overhangs and moderately meaty tires will never get a tight turning circle.

A rear wheel drive car can turn on a dime, but not a fwd.

You're quite right - the combination of FWD, transverse engine layout, long wheelbase and large-ish wheels/tires works against a tight turning radius.

However, the list of similar vehicles that turn tighter than the TSX is pretty long and varied: Altima 3.5SE (38.7); Accord coupe V6 (38.1); Mazda 6s (38.7); Audi A4 (36.4); and I'll probably get struck by lightning for mentioning this - Saab 9-3 (35.4). The TSX could and should do better. Oh well - just have to pay extra attention in those tight underground parking garages.

Cheers,

Jaeger

After the CL's "Titanic" type turning radius, the 9-3's will be refreshing.

I can't believe that an Altima has a tigher radius than a TSX! The Altima is a "hunk" (large) of a car!

Changes? I wouldn't count on anything more than 1 or 2 more colours.

How about door lock knobs that sit flush with the car when locked. Its a pain sticking my arm out the window with them in the way. I know its been talked about before, but it is annoying.

Actually, auto lock up when car hits 15mph, and auto unlock when removing keys would be cool. Also, the front door should be able to unlock it self when trying to open from inside. Such a pain to hunt for the switch everytime when you're trying to get out of the car. PLEASE look at how MB/BMW/AUDI are doing it (first pull unlocks and second pull opens).
And at the same time, please put summer tires as an option and beef up the brakes. PLEASE!! 70-0mph in 185 feet? That's family sedan's territory. Make it 170 or less with firmer feel on the pedal.

These features would have to be programmable....I can't stand the autolocking...and I'd rather not have it unlock when you pull the handle. It would significantly affect my view of the TSX when it comes time to buy a car next year if it had this stuff.

- Auto-on headlights.

- One-touch sunroof and windows.

- Illuminated steering wheel controls.

How bad is the turning radius? I have an old G20, but it is the worst radius ever- really bothers me. A lincoln Town car can prob u-turn where I need to 3-point turn

In addition to everyone else's wishes of memory, power pass seat, auto up/down windows and roof an auto on headlights, I would like to see these color/trim additions for the US market:

- White, Meteor Silver and Red also availabe with the Ebony interior
- Blue also available with the Parch interior
- Wood trim changed to darker color with Parch interior (like on the Insprire)
- Silver or wood trim added to the back door (also like the Inspire)

For the Canadian market:

- Carbon Grey and Met. Silver
- Quartz interior
- Black and Red with Ebony int.
- Indigo Blue with Parch int.

Holy cr@p you're right - 36.8 ft. for the Sienna v. 40 ft. for the TSX. Yikes.

Great suggestions in this thread. Even with all of these things that I wish the TSX had, I still love it. Now, that's really saying something!
