Ack... Just got rear ended.. need advice!

hey folks,

long time lurker here.

i need help. i just got rear ended on the way home from work tonight. smacked my rear end up good.

im worried about the frame, engine, and exhaust system.

i have a 2007 tsx. had 15k miles when i bought it in 2009. has about 45k now. i love it. just got it paid off and now this happens.

will attach some pics below.

can anyone tell me if this damage is even close to totaling the car?? i doubt it since the engine (apparently) wasnt affected, but i am crossing my fingers.

any advice appreciated!... thanks

btw, no injuries. i was the only occupant. tsx is well built!

Yikes! Glad to hear you're ok. Get your insurance company involved if you haven't already. Hard to say by the looks of it if your ride is totaled, but individual parts and panels to replace add up quick.

HOLY SH**! I'm glad your ok. Acura's are pretty safe. Looking from your car being rear-ended it did exactly what it was suppose to. It looks totaled, but its the frame I'm wondering about. If it adds up to be quite a bit they'll total it out anyhow. And if it DOES get fixed, always check for any leaks in the trunk after a rain. Sometimes after a car is rearended pretty bad, it'll leak after repairs.

That looks pretty bad. Glad you're okay. Hopefully the damage is not too bad, so they don't total it. That has to be the worse feeling, when you finish paying off your car and then this happens and you're at risk for a total loss.

Good luck with everything.

You shouldn't get your insurance involved in this since it is an at fault of the person who hit you. Get an estimate of the damages from your local dealer and submit a claim on the insurance company of the person who hit you. Keep your cool as getting angry will only cause resistance from the insurance company.

Glad you are ok though. You shouldn't have any issues but be prepared for anything. Insurance companies are scumbags and will try anything to lowball you. Keep to your guns and don't accept anything less then total repair. The insurance companies may fight you to the end but if it ends up in court you are almost assured a win. I hope it doesn't end up to that point.

2007tsx,

Glad to hear that you're alive and kicking but I wish we could say the same for your poor TSX! Merely based off of my initial scrutiny of your pics I would hasten to say that the insurance company, should you choose to get them involved, will total it. However, if you choose to repair the damaged body panels I would take it to a reputable local body shop to fix it. Procure your own parts from http://www.acurapartswarehouse.com/, craigslist.org, eBay or local junkyards in order to save cash on the repairs. If you have a sentimental attachment to your TSX then I would understand why you would want to repair it rather than replace it with another model. I did the same thing with my old '94 Miata

In any case, good luck with your situation!

You need a different insurance company. I use State Farm. I pay a little more, but those guys take real good care of me. I start with my own insurance company in all cases where insurance is involved. Sometimes I take care of my own parking lot dings. I am on a first-name basis with the guys who own the body shop a mile from my house. They are authorized by State Farm to do the initial estimate of damage (with photos etc).

I always play it on the safe side and never get them involved unless I need to and know it is my fault. Especially with larger insurance companies, while they will never admit to you that even if it isn't your fault that your insurance cost won't go up, it may also not go down. This is the reason why I don't go with the top insurance company such as All-State or Farmers etc.

Think of it this way, even if it isn't your fault, you are costing the insurance company time and money to have them work on your behalf. The cost needs to come somewhere.

I pay around $520/6 months on insurance and I'm 33 not married. Can't complain about that price.

i got rear ended (some scrapes, scratches on rear bumper/lip) about 6 months ago by some knucklehead and i immediately jumped all over his insurance to pay for my damages. i got quoted at around $900-$1000 and i made damn sure to express that to his insurance before they even tried to lowball me. long story short, they cut me a check for $1000 within a week!!! if u let them drag it out, they will. i wait on no one and was on them from day one.

i never notified my insurance. for what? there's no need. they might try to file a claim on ur behalf against urself and then ur premiums will go up before u even know what happened. almost happened to my in-law before i nipped it in the bud!

bottom line: go after his insurance, leave urs out of it!
