Angry Accident - Need Advice

I have enjoyed my first month of TSX ownership until I was involved in an accident. I was coming home from work and a White GMC Yukon pulled out infront of me from the opposing side of traffic. I swerved to avoid and eneded up going down a small hill and hitting a curb.

After the accident:

The car fixed:

I did not notice at first there was was a small dent by the passanger side moonroof. Now the dent is getting bigger and has spread to the drive side....

Also a seperation is forming on the drive side moonroof.

I paid to get my car fixed because it was less than my deductable and I had lots of reward points for a free rental car saved up.

Does this look like frame damage? My bumpter needed minor refinishing and I had to replace my rim. My tire did not pop.

mistake #1 if you didnt do it was not getting a full estimate on the damages from a mechanic, and then deciding. if i were you, i'd have the car looked at. and i hope you still have the person's information (though the accident was probably legally your fault right?) in pa, it's something like you have to have control of your car at all times, so even though he pulled in front of you, it'd be your fault for not being able to stop. of course, it depends where you are and the laws there, and where you hit. do you have a police report?

There was no contact between the two cars. After getting cut off, the Yukon drove away. I was not aware that this was a hit and run so I never called the cops (I know now but at the time I was in a little shock from almost getting nailed and just wanted to go home).

The car did handle like a champ and the VSA saved me from a utility pole.

I took my TSX to a Honda/Acura dealership collision centre and the collision specialist and I did not notice the damage to the roof at the time (maybe because we focused in on the front of the car).

Jaehshim,

Have you ever gotten a quote to see what the damage estimate is like?

Thanks for the advice.

damn man, well now you have no choice but to fix it yourself..

lesson learned...always report the accident at the time of accident no matter how minor it seems. not knowing it's a hit and run? come on man. you gotta know these things...someone hits you and leaves.....i know there's the shock of the accident, but you didn't think there was a problem there?

Check the gaps between all the doors, trunk, hood etc and look for any uneven gaps. You could have twisted the frame but going into the ditch and hitting the left front of the car. A body shop could probable take the twist out, not sure how much that might cost you. Sucks that this stuff happens.

You can maybe take it into the dealer and simply just say... uhhh something's wrong with my sunroof (don't mention the hitting the curb part). You may be able to get that part repaired under warranty.

it wasn't really a hit and run. yea the other driver pulled in front of him but as he said, he swerved to avoid the accident. therefore no contact between the 2 cars ever happened.

true, but then i'd still call the police and file a report on the scene of the accident.

it's not that much damage to the TSX, especially if he hit a curb going down hill hard. sounds like he was run off the road.

You only showed a picture of the left side...does that mean you swerved to the left and hit the curb on the left side of your car at an angle?

Did you hit the curb at a decent amount of speed?

Maybe you hit the curb beyond the crumple zone speed and caused some damage to spread through the car (due to it being designed to absorb damage and spread it throughout the car to protect you)? (lol, just thought i'd throw something like that in, although it's very unlikely)

Maybe the mechanic you went to was cheaper than your deductible because he planned to cause more damage and make you come back to him? just kidding

Now to be serious...I'd have a dealer look at it. By the sound of it, it sounds like you're saying that the dent in the roof is growing? Try looking at it flat on...is the moonroof flat, or does it look like maybe one of it's legs aren't aligned?

Arrow Took the car back

I took my car back to the collision centre. Decided to get the insurance company involved. Here is a picture that my claims adjuster took [I drove the car for a week after I got it fixed the first time ~ 200 miles). Big differece in the gap...

Orginal estimate was $800 to fix the roof. Got a call today at work saying that there was A LOT more work that has to be done and the dealership has to keep the car for a week more. They have to measure my frame and try to find where the bending is coming from. My insurance is picking up everything now.

Damn man. Good luck on your quest. Cars nowadays are soo much safer but have become fragile as a result.
