About to install some DIY Ambient Light for less than $10!!
#161
It took me a while but i was finally able to get my interior led tubes installed. I got fed up trying to run the power through another wire so i just extended the wires and ran them right to my batt. Looks great and having the lights pulse while i'm driving is going to take some getting use to. Thanks for all the help.
Does anyone know where I can find the sizes of the rest of the bulbs in my car so i can finally order the right sizes to complete the interior look of my car?

As for other leds bulbs, theres a HUGE thread on here someplace, Its in the FAQ/DIY section I think. Search if you cant find it.

Taking pics of this is very difficult, nobody's pics really do it justice, you have to see it in person.

don't get the ebay ones. the poster that bought them from the guy there said the wires were too short, which is why he had to buy additional wiring and connectors so there was enouch slack to reach from the footwells to the cubby.
i hope the superbrightled ones are long enough. there is 3 ft of wiring. i'd imagine that has to reach.

You need to do a long exposure to capture it correctly. At least 2 or 3 seconds. Only thing is, you need a tripod so the camera does shake, and well the problem with that.... well I defy anyone to erect a tripod inside there car lol. Thats why everyone's pics are either too dark or blury (including mine). You kinda have to take everyones word that it looks gret until you do it for yourself and see how great it looks.

Does the center console light have it's own fuse? I installed a dvd player 2 years ago, and removed the light bulb from the wiring... now, there's no power running to it. I tested the wire with a voltometer, and there's no power running into it. I was still able to do the footwell light mod by running a line from the "Intr Lights" fuse in the fuse box, but when I eventually restore the car back to stock to sell/trade it, I'll want to fix it...

How would a 18-22 gauge wire tap fit a 30 gauge? Didnt I tell you guys that i had trouble with the lights from superbrightled.com because the wires were too small? The higher the gauge, the smaller the wire. If you crimp it with 18-22 gauge, you will have a hard time getting a good connection cause that size quickconnect is too big to be able to touch the copper. I bought two of them from superbrightled and I tried and tried and they just didnt work for me.

do you guys think it would be excessive to solder the 30 gauge wire from the superbrightleds i got to some 22 gauge wire, then quickconnect the 22 with the console wires? i figure i'm probably not going to be able to sell the LEDs to anyone since they're the wrong gauge, and they won't work with the quickconnect since the wire is too thin.

i guess it could be soldered to the end where the wires meet the bulb for the cubby.
but that means i have to solder it in the car, no? it's not like i can take out the wiring and do it at home, then reinstall it.

soo i haven't exactly bragged about this one. but because i did this mod. i shorted my interior lighting.. bc a i was in a rush to go out one night... NEVER JUMP A FUSE!!!!!!
i've found the burned and melted wire on the underdash harness... i will have the joy of one day again taking apart my whole dash to rerun the wire and see my interior lighting!.... when completing this mod. make sure you take the time to either solder/heatshrink.. or maybe taps. to ensure that the wires do not touch!!!!

Basically if your black and red wires touch it continues to circulate and melts the small wire.
When i did this i separated the the wires like spread them out cut inbetween that their not attached and used 2 separate taps.
The leds off superbrightleds have really small wires, so next time im going to just solder them to another wire.

the black and red on the cubby.... just dont ever jump the fuse... when it pops. u'll lose the small light fuse under the hood.. this will cause u to lose ur turn signals and parking lights.... which is why i was in a rush to go out one night.. and made a dumb decision to jump the fuse!!!!! ..... =(
all because my wiring on this mod was poorly done... and i had taken the cubby out to pull out my navi system... and was in a rush putting it back in to go out......
learned my lesson. and once its called in tx i'll have everything redone =) along with prolly some jdm puddle lights wired up to the dome lights.. so they'll fade in and out =)

I think I jumped a fuse...i'm not sure which one, my tail lights dont work, and my turning signals dont blink when i unlock or lock my car with the remote...is it the small light fuse that went out like 'vthree' or is it another one??
#198
Jumping fuses is an absolutely terrible idea. You're pretty much asking for your car to burst into flames. And when it does, and the fire investigator finds the jumped fuse, and he will, your insurance will gladly deny your claim. And then you will wish you spent $0.50 on a fuse instead of losing your $30k car and everything that was in it. </lecture>

I covered the wires in black shrink wrap and slid them out the side by the seats they arent even noticeable. And I mounted them to the flap of carpet that folds under the seat.
