6MT w/navi or no navi?

I have a 2007 6MT TSX without a navi and was thinking if I should of gotten a navi. I was thinking of trading in my car for a navi equipped one but the dealerships in my area don't have a lot of 6MT cars that have a carbon gray exterior color. I decided to keep my car. For those who have a 6MT without navi, do you reget not getting it. I chose not to because I have a portable GPS I can place on my dashboard and it will save me 2 grand. Just wondering.

its all preference bro.. i kinda like having the navi and it looks nice as well, but then again u would be at a loss if u tried to get one with a navi becasue the trade in and all th at wouldnt be the same im guessing... unless u decided to sell private and then purchase one with nav... so basicaly it wouldnt be worth it now that you have purchased ur car.. but if ya have the money go for it =).

when i bought my tsx in nov 06 i bought it with the nav. I have no regrets on my decision-yes I could have saved the 2 grand but i decided to go all out. we do alot of traveling so the nav came in handy. I agree with you tho, 6 spd

I am glad I have nai and would not buy a car without it. I find it very useful. However since you already bought your car without, it does not make much financial sense to trade just to get navi. AT this point it would be better to just get an aftermarket unit.

You'd take quite a hit by trading just to get the nav (or for any other reason for that matter). I'll admit up font here that I'm not a fan of the nav (to me it's more of the nanny state)(get a friggin map), but I realize that it's becoming a must buy from a resale standpoint. Also, if you do allot of travelling I'm sure it comes in handy. If you have to have it now, use your dash mount; wait till next time for an OE unit (I think the dash looks better without it anyway).

I had to order my 6MT CGP NAV and wait 4 months. Definitely worth the wait. Just bought a portable for use in the other cars, and let me tell you, not matter how much better the unit is than the one that's built-in, no matter what, it is still a portable unit - and every aspect that is related to its "portability' is very quickly becoming very annoying, part about it. The more I (try) to use it, the more frustrated I get that it isn't built into the car. If given a choice, I'd definitely say get a built-in, but that $2k difference (per car!!) is extremely compelling.

That said, since you already have the car, I don't think it's worth the loss to trade it in unless you absolutely had to.

since you already have the car it would be better and cheaper for you to buy a portable unit.

I find having the built-in navi especially useful for 6MT owners because of the voice-activated system integration. Being able to adjust radio and air settings by vocalizing it minimizes the time you spend not looking at the road and allows 6MT owners to drive/shift more freely. Effectively, I would look at my built-in navi as a safety device .

However, to the OP, I would agree with everyone else who says that it probably wouldn't be worth trading your car in to make the switch unless you're willing to take a substantial financial hit.

I wish I had navi, it's a cool feature. Maybe next time around if I can cough up the extra $2k, I'll get it.

I almost didn't get the navi because I figured I have no use for it. I'm really glad that I did get it, though. I use its calculator and calendar functions regularly, and it did help me get to all of my interviews at obscure locations. Voice commands are nice to have as well (doh, I'm low on gas...."display gas stations"). The navi system is one of the best out there. I don't have to worry about putting it away or having it stolen. The screen's big, and it has a few extra features that a portable navi won't have.

I wouldn't trade in a car so new...you'd take a very big hit. If your car were 2 years old, then I might consider it.

I agree with Dayta...it's quite useful to have with a MT. Just tap on the button, and you can say your command during mid-shift, heel-toe'ing, or whatever.

when you are negotiating the price of the car you can end up not having to pay the full $2,000 for the nav. i ended up paying very close to what others paid without nav.

Very true. But, I bought my car CPO and they were hard to come by at the time (2005, not too many used ones around yet), so I had to take what I could get. Next time, hopefully I can be more particular.

Resale on Navi will be $1,400 so it all depends on how long you own the car. However, you have to figure that it's factory installed and compatible with steering wheel, etc. so it's more than likely worth it.

If you feel that getting a $300 Garmin is okay consider that you will get maybe $50 for it two years from now on FleaBay so you're still only down $350 with the factory installed NAVI...

sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Absolutely not worth it if you are leasing..... I did some quick math at the dealer before opting for one.

$38 extra per month x 36 months = $1,368 down the tube after lease-end the dealer is the one that really benefits.

I went out and bought a TomTom for $125.00 on Black Friday...No complaints.

+1,000,000

...forgot about that.

Voice commands of the climate control and sound system with the MT was a big factor, too.

You are very close to seeing the all new 09 TSX in a few months. I would wait and see the upgrades to the new TSX and maybe a trade would get you more hp, better navi, XM traffic, upgraded sound system w/ a real sub-woofer, standard ipod connection, back-up camera, etc.. The TSX will still have a high resell value for several years to come, espcially the 06/07/08 models with their extra mid-model upgrades.

I want to see what the 09 have to offer compared to my 06 TSX. It might be worth $2-3,000K to get all those above upgrades on the 09 w/ navi.

I don't regret my 6mt at all, but i do regret not getting the navi. Especially regretted it after I found out about the video hack. Next car (whenever that is) will have stock navi, especially if it's as good as the stock TSX navi.

Yes, but the map cannot tell you where the nearest starbucks is, especially if you are out of town. The navi does much more then take you from point a to b, my friend.

The garmin unit would just work fine. I am using that since I have no navi. I may focus on paying off the car and then look into getting the 2009 TSX with navi.

Sat Nav thoughts

I bought my 2006 this June; Acura district rep’s car. 6 speed and sat nav, certified, 9K miles. I didn’t pay extra for the sat nav. It is an interesting toy. I would feel better about it if the locations were correct. It has directed me in the wrong direction (in the Greater Cincinnati area) about 10% of the time and just has the wrong location or cannot find the address 4 in 10 times.

I wouldn’t miss it if I never had it. I sure wouldn’t pay extra for it. The voice activation is interesting for a while. It reduces the number of smudges on the screen. And, the voice directions do freak out the 5-year old. Adults also get a “wow” out of “Make a U turn, if possible.”

You can change the voices, male or female. I got the special Mother-in-law mode on mine, kinda cool: “You idiot! Where did you learn how to drive?! Didn’t you see that fork in the road?! I swear, you don’t have the brains…”

Cool stuff, but not worth much in dollars.

Earlier life: 1966 Datsun 1600 Sport, 1972 BMW 2002tii, 1973 Volvo 142e, 72 Datsun 240Z, 72 Mercedes 250, 73 BMW 2002, 73 Datsun 260Z, 73 Volvo 164e, 71 BMW 2800cs, 77 BMW 320i, 82 Mercedes 300D, 84 BMW 325e, 86 Acura Legend, 90 Miata, 00 Acura TL
Current life: 06 TSX 6sp, 05 Mercedes SLK 350 7sp, 03 Toy RAV4
A car is an expensive PITA; get one you like.

This is a cool video that talks about the interior design of the TSX. It is kinda wierd to design the door lock buttons to be pressed the opposite functionality as with most cars. For example, if you need to open the doors, you would press the door lock button down to bring up the door latch to open the door.

I've had my car for 2.5 years now and still have to think when I'm locking/unlocking the doors using the buttons on the door. I still can't get used to it being the opposite of how it was on all my previous cars.
