Ya it actually kicks in just over 6000 rpms. I agree it should be lower because ifyou look at the dyno there is a nasty dip in power around 5500 or so.

We'll just have to wait for hondata!

Some people feel that the paint on the TSX is kinda weak. I'm no so sure though.

90% of chips are going to come from highway driving, so if you drive on the highway alot you are going to get nailed.

EDIT: Then again you are from Vancouver, and as far as i know there are no highways there so you must just have bad luck

Yea VTEC doesn't feel as good as it did in my previous 2000 V6 Accord. That thing was a beast! hehe

I miss it

I hope getting an intake will improve the feeling

Going on my past experience, I'm going to answer "few times a day" on this as a pre-emptive strike. Right now I'm still breaking her in, but on my last car it was more like "a few times an hour" so I think it's a safe bet.

Keep in mind vtec is quite high on the TSX

ok ok i have to admit... i had never heard of hitting vtec before reading this thread. to be honest, this is my first manual transmission car and the first with a vtec engine. i had a 91 camry as my first car and that was followed by a 03 protege5. i traded in the pr5 for the tsx... what a GREAT upgrade! =)

anyways... laugh for a while before answering my question... i hear you 'hit vtec' after about 6200 rpm... which gear is best? 2, 3, 4 even? i wish i didnt live on long island... if i hit vtec im probably going to also hit the car in front of me as there is never no traffic on the road

laugh away =)

Hey zazen. No laughing here.

When we talk about hitting vtec, we are really just talking about driving agressively, or even redlining (vtec on the TSX is very high in the revs). For maximum acceleration you want to be as high in the rev range as possible. So what gear this will be will depend on your speed. If you are doing 60 mph, you cant possibly be in vtec in 1st gear.

Make sense?

Heheh.... so was the redline on my Prelude, had no trouble hitting that on a regular basis.

There are agressive drivers and then there are Boston drivers.

I drove in Boston a few weeks ago in a rental car. Let's just say it was a "liberating" experience. I love the fact that half the roads have no lines painted on them.

Although then it was followed up by a drive through New York where I had to pull over each time I took a cell phone call. Damn non-smoking no-cell-phone-talking New York nazi's.

i just had an "ah ha!" moment! i went over to howstuffworks.com and read up on vtec and now i get it. so basically we arent really getting everything out of the engine until the vtec kicks in which is in the high rpm range. at this point vtec kicks in and the valves open up nice and wide... YES ive got it.... time to go for a drive =)

and thanks for not laughing!!

Hehehe, yep. The rules are vague, the challenge great.... but the rewards! Ah the glorious rewards of being a Boston driver! Watching folks with Maine plates cower in fear at your approach, being able to enter and exit a rotary (traffic circle to you out-of-staters) at 60mph without hesitating, being able to find your way into and out of Boston without knowing the name of a single street in between, knowing the true test of a car's handling is cornering on cobblestones, and the joy of spending $14 billion on the world's largest underground Gran Turismo track.

And yes, NY are nazis... I've had 2 speeding tickets in my day and both were in NY.
