6MT owners, how often do you hit vtec?
#42
Ya it actually kicks in just over 6000 rpms. I agree it should be lower because ifyou look at the dyno there is a nasty dip in power around 5500 or so.
We'll just have to wait for hondata!

Some people feel that the paint on the TSX is kinda weak. I'm no so sure though.
90% of chips are going to come from highway driving, so if you drive on the highway alot you are going to get nailed.
EDIT: Then again you are from Vancouver, and as far as i know there are no highways there so you must just have bad luck

Going on my past experience, I'm going to answer "few times a day" on this as a pre-emptive strike. Right now I'm still breaking her in, but on my last car it was more like "a few times an hour" so I think it's a safe bet.

ok ok i have to admit... i had never heard of hitting vtec before reading this thread. to be honest, this is my first manual transmission car and the first with a vtec engine. i had a 91 camry as my first car and that was followed by a 03 protege5. i traded in the pr5 for the tsx... what a GREAT upgrade! =)
anyways... laugh for a while before answering my question... i hear you 'hit vtec' after about 6200 rpm... which gear is best? 2, 3, 4 even? i wish i didnt live on long island... if i hit vtec im probably going to also hit the car in front of me as there is never no traffic on the road
laugh away =)

Hey zazen. No laughing here.
When we talk about hitting vtec, we are really just talking about driving agressively, or even redlining (vtec on the TSX is very high in the revs). For maximum acceleration you want to be as high in the rev range as possible. So what gear this will be will depend on your speed. If you are doing 60 mph, you cant possibly be in vtec in 1st gear.
Make sense?

There are agressive drivers and then there are Boston drivers.

Although then it was followed up by a drive through New York where I had to pull over each time I took a cell phone call. Damn non-smoking no-cell-phone-talking New York nazi's.
