6MT in big cities

I saw many TSX, IS300 and G35s in LA, but everytime I looked into their windows, most of them were automatic. Just wondering who are still as enthsiastic as me and drive a 6MT in big cities. Sometimes at 10am, driving 3 miles on Wilshire would take me 1 hour and hundreds of pumps on the clutch. But with not many traffic, driving on sunset blvd or 101 feels so good.

great!
Luckily LA does not have lots of hilly roads, otherwise it will be intense for new manual driver like me.

I'll bet most TSXs, IS300s, and G35s in the mild of BFE are ATs too.

Yup...most American's are too lazy to put up with driving a manual.

I still prefer manual so I would love to go back to driving one.

We have a fair amount of traffic here, not legendary LA traffic, but enough traffic to make rush hour a pretty frustrating time to be driving the 6MT. Nonetheless, I persevere, for once that traffic subsides, I conclude that I would absolutely be kicking myself had I chosen an auto.

I do a lot of stop and go in Dallas, which isn't LA, Manhattan or Houston, but sucks in its own right. I have a 6MT. At first, I was afraid I would regret it. No problems so far, although for reasons unrelated to MT, I avoid the really stupid gridlock and stop and go.

I'm even an MT noob (first MT owned, although I could drive one competently before). Go for it!

I'd have chosen MT if I were leasing the TSX

I drive my MT in the D.C. area, I've been stuck in 2 hour traffic on the GW Parkway. It's not the easiest for me because I have my ACL replaced after tearing it in martial arts class and sometimes my knee cramps up, but I like MT so much that it was a no-brainer for me. It depends on your own personal benefit-cost analysis, if you think that to fully enjoy the experience of driving requires MT, you learn to put up with the drawbacks.

Not that I'm in a HUGE city, but I love driving my MT north of Charlotte, NC. Although EVERY Friday evening home from work April-September is an extra hour on I-77 South, because all the dumbasses here love to slow down to look out onto the lake on the freeway, holding everybody up for at least 10 miles. That and people here in NC don't know how to drive. I've seriously never seen this many cars abandoned on the side of the road anywhere!!! What's wrong with people down here?!

I'll second that Charlotte is a great city though (or so I hear from my friends there)

I have 200 miles experience driving manual in my recently purchased TSX. Not a lot hills in L.A.? I say there is still enough that made me worry, especially when there is traffic jam in the uphilled section.

6MT Driver right here...
No problems in traffic...
I just hate it when traffic clears up for a little bit and start cruising at 70 MPH then you hit a patch of congestion and you have to immediately slow to about 20 MPH...

I am 6MT driver in the middle of LA. I get frustrated when I drive on Wilshire blvd. but I have to drive on wilshire cus my work is on that street. But it's much better than driving on 405 at rush hours.

Traffic in the DC metro area is said to be the 2nd worst in the nation. When I used to drive to the train station I had to take 66 and I remember stalling a couple of times b/c i was new to driving stick, very embarassing. BUT i take public transportation to and from work so its not a big deal anymore.

I drove in it last summer before I left for grad school. It's really not that bad since the clutch pedal is so light in this car.

I live in Orange County,CA and I have the 6MT. Before the TSX, I had a G35 6MT (superb car) which got totaled because of an a**hole cutting me off on the 405 south (if you see a big black spot on the center divider just before the exit to Seal Beach blvd, that was me...)

I've always owed cars with manual tranny and the only reason to switch to AT would be if I lived in San Francisco or reached 80 years old...

I am sorry to hear about your G35. I always fancy its powerful engine. 405 is always scary with traffic and the mergings. So how do u feel about the difference between the two cars?

Well, I miss the power of the G35, and that's what the ~5K price difference between the G35 and TSX will buy you (the TL is the direct competitor to the G35 though, not the TSX). I didn't want to spend more on the new car than what the insurance company gave me, but if I had ~34K again to spend on a car, it would be the G35 again (over the TL without a doubt).

I've driven manual ever since i got my Learners, and i find it not difficult at all driving in traffic. Sometimes, however, it does get too much during traffic, but the TSX has a very nice light clutch so it's no big deal at all.

You get used to it. Very quickly.

Wow, ACL torn in martial arts? Did you get kicked in the knee? Well anyway my roommate is from Bethesda and he does Karate at Kim's Studio. The chances are slim your practice there, but maybe?

Last Friday I had an appointment in Granada Hills so I had to drive the 405 from Long Beach to Granada Hills in the morning and, turns out, coming back around 5:00pm. I am SO glad I had the AT as it took me 1hr-20min going up and 1hr-56min coming back (all in bumper to bumper traffic).

My system was kung fu and i trained out in Northern Virginia, so I wouldn't have met him, unfortunately.

We were doing high impact jumps that serve as the basis for aerials and I landed on the side of my foot and the rest is history.
