42k for a IS300?

My female friend recently bought a black on black Lexus IS300. She told me that after all the options and taxes it came out to 42,000. I was shocked. I would never spend that kind of money on that car. She took me for a ride in it a few times and it doesn't feel like anything special. The car also feels cramped and she has no navigation. I asked her if she had any regrets...and she told me that she wished she had gotten the bmw 330ci. I just couldn't believe anyone would pay that much for that car. I am leaning towards the TSX all the way.. the best bang for the buck right now.

Well, that's a bit pricey, but I believe it's the norm for those cars. In Canada the car is around 60K, and definately NOT worth the price. It's not anything special.

I'd pass on the beemer. Serious reliability issues. My brothers in law beemer is in the shop every odd month for some kind of problem.

Lexus has the best reliability, followed by the Acura, then BMW.

As for the "WOW" factor, I'd have to say that probably BMW will come out on top. Lexus 2nd, and the Acura last.

Doesn't matter, I think the Acura TSX is one sweet car, and it's the best purchase I have ever made. Coming from a gas guzzling 92 300ZX, its great on gas, while being luxurious.

you realize that for 70 grand canadian you can have a corvette couple.
with option your around 80.
that is the best bang for your buck sports car. i would cry if i was coming even close to that much cash for a car less satisfying than the TSX. or bmw even

Dang, what options and packages she add on to the IS300 to get the price to $42k? $42k is a high price to pay for an IS300!

That's insane. I almost purchased an IS300 about a month before I got my TSX and the dealer was gonna sell it to me for $37k with leather, nav, lsd, heated seats, and moon-roof. Your friend should've either done more research on the actual cost of the car or she should've at least attempted to negotiate. That's way too much for that car. My parents paid $45k for their '04 BMW 525. That dealer made the commission for 2 cars with that one sale.

That's just dumb. $42k for a car that feels smaller inside than a Toyota Corolla?

is300 is cramped as hell. My friend has one, the interior is cheesy and the seats are uncomfortable.

Ouch. That's like paying 34k for a TSX without Navi. OUCH OUCH, but still, if I had the choice of paying 34k for a TSX or 42k for an is300, I'd take a TSX in a heartbeat.

60K in Canada Where the hell did you shop? The Lexus dealer was next door to my Acura dealer and I could have had an IS with leather on the road for 45K and that was without barganing. 4 to 5K discounts are not unheard of for the IS.

No way it is 60k Cdn! I can get a TRD fully loaded on 52kCdn OTD. They offer 8k - 10k discount on it!

yes, she got ripped off. Even at $26-30k, I hesitate on an IS300 (especially when they are coming out with a new model in a few months). Wow.. $42k.. some dealer out there is taking the month off.

Sales are way off for the IS300 and they're getting ready for a redesign. I test drove one and it was like driving my old Corolla with just a little more hp. The dealer should be giving those cars away.

You didn't do a good job of being a friend in letting her buy the car at that price... Now, it's time to make up.. Never mention to her, or give a slightest hint that she overpaid.

I was thinking this already had a Turbo kit installed. I have a really hard time understanding how it's possible to get $12,000 worth of options on a $30,000 car

The highest I could get it by "building" one is about $38,000. . .

Although w/a Turbo kit and 700 ponies. . . might not be a bad deal.

i think (and hope) that that is with all taxes and with finance charges. at 60months at about 5% or so that is another $4K or so and 8% sales tax is about $3K so maybe she got the car for $35K which makes a bit more sence

yeah i think she's including the total costs, including interest and such.

my cousin bought his IS300 the same time as i bought my tsx, about 4 months ago. he got the special limited edition, (includes pearl white color, body kit, alloy wheels, sunroof etc.) for a little over 30K. it was a really good price for everything that was included.

while the IS300 is a copy of the beemer, in terms of DNA, the tsx is its own car.

That is the gheyist shit I've ever read. You probably couldn't tell the difference between an apple pie and some pussy.

42k is WAY to much, she got ripped. Unless it was a leftover L-tuned package 2 IS 300. Otherwise, she could get one 30k no issues new
And this IS bashing is hilarious. The TSX is not even IS competition. And has NOTHING in common with a Corolla, while you do with your FWD cars. Some people don't want cars bigger than the C-class, IS or 3. The TSX is bigger. Some people don't want bigger. Bigger is not better. Sigh....

My friend got an is300 when they first came out. I never drove it but as a passenger, i thought it was extremely smooth and the sound from the exhaust was orgasmic. And the way the the doors sound when they close screams quality.

Before i bought my tsx, i was thinking that if the tsx could come close the quality of the is300, i'd be very happy. And i think it's come close. Some areas, it has surpassed the is300 like the quality of interior materials and its got more standard features, but some areas, the tsx has a long way to go. The way the windows roll down on the lexus is so much smoother and quieter than the tsx, for example. Also, the lexus has this throaty bass-filled rumble sound coming out of its exhaust. The tsx has more like a whiny, high pitched sound coming out (kinda like the sound of a formula one car)

Nonetheless, no regrets whatsoever in my tsx. i love it to death! And no rattles either

If I check every possible option on a 2005 IS at sticker the most I could come up with is $38,614 plus tax etc. total maybe $40,915.

Sounds like she's not an especially good negotiator.....

Maybe she just wanted to brag about how much of a car she can afford.

Will the ghosts of TSEAN, GOSPEED and other folks with IS issues come out of the woodwork?
