40,000 Mile Service

Just got the ride back from the 40K service check.

Originally I asked for:
40K check
Right Front Headlamp Condensation Check
TSB 04-024 regarding front speaker rattles ( 2nd attempt - it works much better when you can come here and find the actual TSB # and give it to them - mad props to Sigma Chi)
Trunk Wiring Harness Recall

Here's what Hoehn did:

* 40K mile service completed 1.20 hrs. Labor ($85/hr) = $102.00
1 Oil Filter = $8.78
1 Drain Washer = $0.36
1 Windshield Washer Fluid = $3.13
5 Quarts Oil (@$3.65 qt ) = $18.25
Hazardous Waste Fee = $1.50

We have installed a corrugated plastic tube over the rear harness for added reliability.

1 Kit (N/C)

Customer states the pass side headlight housing gets condensation on the inside.

00700 Found moisture inside the headlight housing. Replaced the pass side headlight assy

1 Section (N/C)
1 Headlight Unit, R (N/C)

Customer states the drivers speaker buzzes when playing music see sb 04-0424.

1 Felt Wool (N/C)

Replace front brake pads and resurface rotors

1 Pad Set, Front = $50.00
1 Labor (@ $85 hr) = $212.50

The pass front door grab handle cracked during removal of the pass front door. Replaced the handle.

TOTAL = $412.88
ORIGINAL ESTIMATE = $144

The front brakes were down to .02 he said and he recommended replacement. I probably got screwed but since the car was already in the shop...

The brake job seems a bit high, but compared to say a BMW325 service, it's still cheap.

I would never pay.

I always buy my stuff at the local VW dealership. The stuff works great, it's concentrated, and costs half that.

It's what I paid for my VW Jetta @45k. Guess it's the norm in the area.

They snuck it in. You would think they would have just included it in the price already. Bastards.

I guess this thread serves as a good reminder to check the fluid levels (brake, windshield washer, power steering) and top off before service.

Charging $3.13 to top off windshield washer fluid is

yikes! my car is in the shop at 35k right now and they said the rear brake pads are going to need replacing in 3-5k miles. I would reccomend that anyone who can change to a spare tire replace their pads themselves! It will take at most 10 minutes per wheel, including jacking it up, taking the wheel off and putting it back on and save a ton of money.

So it looks like the rears don't last too long. I had mine replaced at 50,000km (31,000miles)

I'd love to learn how to change pads.

Also, if you want your alignment done, take it to pepboys. They charge $50 opposed to $80 Acura charges.

I'll take some pictures when I change mine out. I haven't worked on the tsx brakes yet but just did the fronts on my girlfriends car. Once you get teh wheel off it usually consists of undoing the lowest bolt on the top of the caliper. Swinging a hinged arm up and out of the way and tieing it to the spring. Pulling out the old pads. Use a c-clamp to squeeze the piston opening the caliper slightly to make room for the new pads and dropping the new ones right in. No more than a 10 minute job...and that's taking your time.

I think a step by step with pics in the FAQ would be most helpful

Seems so easy even a bafoon like jlukja could do it.

jlukja, who would give it a try if he had step-by-step pics and instructions.
