Question 2008 Tsx W/o Navi...

Dealer gives me a quote on a 2008 (code 968) with an auto transmission and no navigation.

He says he'll give me the car, trunk mat, touch-up paint and the first oil change free, for $27,980.00.

What do you think? Rip off or good deal?

Thanks,

A-Train

Cool Anybody willing to scan in...

Anybody willing to scan in their sales contract so I can see the price before tax.

I want to be able to show my salesman that he is taking advantage of me.

I bought a 2003 RSX and a 2005 TL from him and this is the way I get treated in 2007?

Thanks,

A-Train

think 28 otd w/ navi, 26 otd w/o navi. some people have gotten even lower recently. you don't need a sales contract, just a little common sense. keep on with the negotiation and you'll get what you want. if they are obstinate, go to another dealer!

Angry You're right...

I appreciate the replies.

My concern is the salesman already processed the paperwork so I could pick the car up on Monday.

He swore up and down that he was giving me a great price. The RSX and TL he gave me great deals on.

The '03 RSX was $20,600 new with a 5AT.
The '05 TL he handed over for $30,400 W/O NAVI (5AT)

I thought those were decent prices.

I don't get what is going on here?

I'm going to call him tomorrow on his cell phone and cancel the order.

Is this price with tax or without? If it's just the price of the car, then you're getting a raw deal, like others have said. $28,190 is MSRP for a non-navi, to give you an idea.

Angry B-4 Tax...

It says $27,980.00 before tax...

The MSRP for the 2008 showed $28,880 on the window sticker.

$1,958.60 for tax.

$254 REG fee

$7.50 Tire crap fee

$258 dealer fees

Total: $30,458.10

This makes me mad as hell.

I walked in there to make a deal on a 2006 used TSX and walked out with a jar of vasoline.

I bought my 2006 MT TSX w/ Navi last May for $30k OTD. That's with crappy 7.5% sales tax. A good way is to just ask for the car at $500 BELOW invoice. Unless you signed any paper and handed over a check, you should be able to go to another dealer or negotiate the price down.

Edit: just realized this is for 2008 TSX. In that case, this is decent since 2008 JUST came out. You should consider a 2007 TSX instead. Don't think they changed much from 2007-2008.

That's about 200 less than what I paid for my 08 w/o nav.

I see all these "deals" that are better, but what we don't see is what the interest rate was that the dealer charged them, assuming they did have the cash to pay for it. Only about 30% of car buyers qualify for the 2.9% rate that Honda has going on now.

The dealer always wins........

that sounds like a price you would pay for a tsx with nav. i think they should do better especially since already bought cars from them. my good friend is an acura service manager so he was able to get me a excellant price for me on my 06 tsx 6spd with nav. it also included trunk tray, wheel locks, door-edge guards, mud guards, painted-on pin stripes and great discounts on the service-including free oil changes and tire rotations.

That's a rip off. I got a quote for the '08 without Navi for $26289 and that includes the destination fee. Some other dealers gave it to be at $26800. For a '08 with Navigation, I got a quote of $28,139. So yeah... you definitely can get a better deal than that.

You should consider a 07 because there's not much difference between the two years. I just got one over the weekend with navigation around $25,779 which came out to be about $28,300 OTD

If there are any 07's left go for one of those, because there are no differences between the 2007 and 2008 TSX models! As with pricing, because the 2008's came out very recently, I don't think you have that much leeway with pricing, so maybe you should wait until the end of the year. Even then, I'm surprised that they want you to pay close to MSRP when the '08 is the same as the '07.

Cool How did I do?

So I went back to the dealer and worked out the price and they were very receptive to my price and needs after I showed them what others were paying.

I got the trunk tray, all season floor mats, touch-up paint, wheel locks and OTD price of $29,318. Including tax, destination, reg/title fees, dealer fees, and the $7.50 tire fee (WTF?). 2008 TSX NON-NAVI (5AT)

$26,200 was the renegotiation price

So I was able to knock off $1,139.55 off the OTD price. Basically took off $1,780 from the starting price.

Thanks to everyone who posted.

How did I do?

A-Train

PS When I picked up the car the "Shift Interlock Cap" was missing and the remotes were not linked to the car. When we got in and started the car it would only say "Welcome". Not "Welcome Driver 1 or 2".

The service manager fixed that in 2 seconds (took the cap/cover from another TSX and linked the remotes) and when I asked if the car was prepped correctly he just looked at me and smiled.

PPS Hello Mr. So and So this is Acura we just wanted to know how your experience was buying the car at "X" dealer. On a scale of 1-5, 5 being the best...how do you rate dealer "X".

Wait for it...

I don't know off the top of my head... but you can find that info for any car as well as ballpark figures of what people are paying (TMV = true market value) at edmunds.com

Post A little birdie told me...

tal,

A "friend" from a dealer told me the dealer owns the 2008 TSX NON-NAVI 5AT for $25,860.00 and destination varies from dealer to dealer. I found out that my dealer was charging $715.00 for destination but put $750.00 on the paperwork. I had to have them rewrite the contract.

Later that evening I found out from the "friend" that the destination fee is sometimes fudged to the dealer's advantage and the actual destination fee is $680.00.

$35 is not much to raise hell about but if they sell 30 TSX's a month that's $1,050 in their pocket. If they sell 4 different models and fudge the price by $35 then it jumps to $4,200 a month or $50,400 per year.

The shipping is on the factory applied window sticker, so how do they play games with it?

Arrgg...Looking to buy in a couple of weeks and want to get the invoice & destination down. I want my numbers to jive with what the dealer has.

The destination just went up on the TSXs. Went by to see it and couldn't remember what the new number was. It's in the 700s. I called them and they told me $720. Looked on the Acura website and it's $715. This pisses me off because they gave me a wrong number. I don't care if it's $5 or $500...they lied to me.

KBB and Edmunds don't have the invoice prices as of yet. Found something online telling me $25915 w/o destination. You are telling me $25860. Hmmmm....

I know these numbers are not off by much but I want to go into the dealer and have EXACT numbers and not look like some tool having numbers 'close enough'.

are you discussing destination charges or documentation fees. destination charges are set- on my 2006 tsx they were $670.00 as per the window msrp sticker.

I was quoted $26,599 before TT&L. I do not know if this includes destination or not. I will probably have a new 2008 TSX by the end of this weekend. I would like to get $28,000 OTD for an 08' non-navi.

Do you think I can do better than $28 OTD? If anyone knows anyone at Gunn Acura or any of the Austin dealers, let me know.

maybe-depends on your sales tax, registration fees, and what other fees they charge. destination charge is in that figure, documentation might not be. the dealer will also try to sell you all kinds of goodies such as extended warranty, paint protection, service plans, etc. if you go to edmonds forums you will be able to see that you can get the extended warranty cheaper.

Post I'll show you...

Here is the break down...

Unit Price: $26,200
Destination: $715.00

Total Unit Price: $26,915

Additional Options:
Rubber trunk liner : N/C
All Season Floor Mats: N/C
Wheel Locks: N/C
Touch-up Paint: N/C

TOTAL VEHICLE PRICE: $26,915.00
TRADE IN VALUE: N/A
TOTAL TAXABLE AMOUNT: $26,915.00
STATE SALES TAX (7%): $1,884.05

NJ Supplemental Title Fee (4 years): $254.00

Dealer Documentation Fees: $258.00
NJ Motor Vehicle Tire Fee $1.50 per Tire: $7.50
ADD NET PAY-OFF ON TRADE IN: N/A

TOTAL (OTD): $29,318.55
Deposit: $XX,XXX
BALANCE DUE/FINANCE AMOUNT: $XX,XXX

Does that clear things up?

I won't say which dealer this is...nor will I give the VIN # or deposit amount. The dealer does visit this site and I still have to have to the car serviced there...if you know what I mean.

Talking Sorry...

TSX Wisc Badger,

It started off bad and I worked them down to a fair price. A little work and aggressiveness can pay off. They feed off of people who take the first offer.

haha i didn't take their 1st offer, my dad was a sales manager for 15 years... I've been taught properly. I got hosed on my trades (2). It was a saturday night, banks obviously closed, I copied down my pay off amounts on a piece of paper for the guys, they told me the price, I countered by about $1100 off sticker and had a quote from a different dealer, asked if they could match it and they came back and said yes. Drove off into the sunset.

5 days later I get a call from their sales manager saying I gave them the wrong payoff amounts... not by like $5 or $10 bucks... by $985. I told him I wrote them down for him properly off of a statement I had from the bank and also the amount I was told over the automated phone service. He said somewhere along the line the prices must have gotten altered, my 6's looked like 0's or some BS story like that, or he mixed up the numbers (how convenient) but he had a copy of my signature stating I was responsible for any gaps in the payoffs, a signature I never recieved a copy of might I add. I contacted a lawyer in the family... said I should just pay it off and never go back there so I did. Fuckin bunk. I'm not mad at you, it just brings up bad feelings of my brand new TSX and the fun I was having being ruined by a stupid prick who got one by me. I swear my dad was turning in his grave that day.
