2006 TSX for $5,000 below invoice!?!?
My brother went to a car show in Worcester, MA on Saturday this weekend. He was there looking at cars just for something to do and happened upon the Acura section. He knew that I had just ordered an '06 RBP w/NAV. They happened to have one there, same color, with Nav. They had a show sale sticker on it of $28,505. My brother says: "How much would you let this go for today if I were to write you a check and drive off with it?" The guy says "Well, I can't let it go today because once we committ to the car show, we have to leave the cars here until Sunday. But if you want to get me a bank check, I can let it go for $22,500." Can you believe that??? This is not a used car, very low miles on it; just driving it into the Worcester Centrum, plus having 100+ people climbing in and out of it. I could not believe it. Wish I had known that before I put down my $1,000 non-refundable deposit. The dealership was Acura of Auburn (MASS). Good thing to keep in mind if anyone wants to buy NEXT year.

woah, run! this is where that phrase "if it's too good to be true, it probably is" comes into play.
Though that is a great deal I'd be worried that the engine'd fall out or something
Then again, I've never been to a car show before like that and they may very well just give some crazy deals!

It is not uncommon for the sponsered dealership at the car shows to give pretty good deals to people willing to atleast put a deposit on the car while at the show. But to sell a car at $5000 below invoice would be insane. I doubt the salesman would even make a commision selling the car that cheap. Are you sure that the salesman wasnt just being an ignorant dick and making up a price because he didnt believe your brother would pay for the car in full? The salesman around here are like that, its actually kind of annoying to deal with. But if its a serious deal, I would take it. Even if you lose that $1000 from your deposit at the other dealer, you will still make out good.

if you put down a 1000 dollar deposite, that you cannot get back, and purchase a car that is 5k cheaper, that means u have saved 4k.
If its true, then why not save 4k, still a heck of a deal

And for all of you who are calling BS, I've just emailed the dealership to see what the validity is of the story; to see if he was just calling bluff.

theresa that would of been awesome if you closed the deal. even of the fact you'd lose the $1,000 deposit for the ordered '06.
$4k saved is $4k you can invest elsewhere.

Just as an aside, I was at the DC auto show this weekend and was reminded of the damage cars take from being at a show. Don't underestimate the value drop from several hundred people climbing in and out of it. A few switches are likely to get broken, leather spilled on, creased, or god forbid ripped, and people throwing the stick all around if its a MT. Not to mention all the people running their hands over it, sitting on the exterior, and raising and lowering the hood and poking around. Look for broken dipsticks, belts hanging off, bent hood support bar, etc. I saw all these things on the models there.
I'd almost say $4k saved is about right for the depreciation from a car-show vehicle. God knows I'd never buy one.

I believe it. As was mentioned above, autoshow cars get absolutely beat on. Sure they don't have the miles, but they already have a lot of wear and tear, especially the seats. I've seen brand new cars at an autoshow with seats that look and feel like they're 5 years old, just 'cause of everyone climbing in and out.

I did receive a phone call from the Acura of Auburn dealership and of course the man had no idea about any such deal, as I didn't have the name of the salesman that offered that deal. However he did have several cars that he'd love to make me a deal on if I wanted to 'come on down'. I told him I'd already ordered a car and was just checking on that particular deal to see if the offer still stood.

He definitely said "bank or cashier's check". If my brother had been able to get ahold of me in time I would have jumped on the deal, after having him closely inspect it for huge wear and tear. But hindsight is 20/20; he didn't know what I had paid for mine and wasn't sure whether to act on it or not. But, like I said in my original post; if someone has cash on hand to buy a car and is willing to take one with some fingerprints, you may be able to score a huge deal the day after a car show.

I bought my car from Acura of Auburn earlier this month. The sales rep was totally straight with me and delivered everything as agreed. They didn't have the car I wanted on the lot and said they would get one through a swap as soon as they could. I figured that the dealer would require a deposit but he didn't even ask for one. Three weeks later, the sales rep called and said my car was physically on the lot. It seemed like a smart move to wait to call me until he knew for sure the correct car had arrived. When I went to pick it up, the car had all the accessories we agreed upon.
That being said, the $22,500 sounds like a tease. Not many people would come up with the cash right away and most banks close early on Saturdays. The rep probably hoped that your brother would keep thinking about the car and buy one in the future.

I went to the DC auto show this past weekend and when i went to sit inside the new 06 tsx i already saw massive amounts of cracks in the leather. This was due to probably all the people that were going in and out of the car. The leather seriously looked like seats which are 6 months old.
