2006 part interchangability
2006 part interchangability
According to the Road and Track article below, the 2006 has the following improvements over the 04/05 models:
- 64 mm throttlebody (previously 60 mm)
- larger intake valves
- higher lift / duration intake cam lobes
- larger header downpipe
- high-flow catalytic converter
- drilling to block design to reduce cylinder-to-cylinder pumping pressures
Does anyone know which parts are possible to be interchanged? Would any of them be worth it? By the looks of it, the high-flow cat, header, and throttlebody might have the ability to be interchangable. Who knows at what cost...

I've looked these parts up and yes, they are different, specifically those, but they missed a few too. The intake was honed in a few areas to help flow that extra air.
Vtec.net reported on a test with the much larger TL TB and saw minimal gains.
1. Yes the TB is larger
2. Yes the intake valve is bigger, but the exhaust is the same (valve springs are shared with the RSX Type S), not the case with 04-05 models.
3. Yes the intake cam only is new
4. Yes the header is new as well.
5. Yes the cat is new to the 2006
6. No idea if they drilled, but the block is definitely a different part number.
So the question is, would the cost for parts be prohibitive... answer is..... yes
If you want more usable power for the same cost, do the CAI, hondata, or better yet, do the Comptech S/C.... assuming you have a 2004. You would need the new ECU (which I doubt could be transplanted) to have the correct fuel mappings, otherwise, more air makes it run leaner, which will get you more power, but more heat too and possibly damage your current engine.
All this was confirmed (parts wise) to the parts catalog.
moda_way and JTso tend to be kill joys... waiting to hear what he has to say.

I guess its wayyyy to early for anyone to have tried any of this, too.
btw - I have an '05 model and seeing our (2) supercharged members has really got me itching to do something beyond the typical I/H/E bolt-ons available.

Only TB mod I've seen from him is the coolant bypass and there is no HP to gain from that, just maintaining what you have.
Again, you'd have to open up your intake manifold too if you do the TB and the Intake manifold is different on the 06.
FYI, you can still do the S/C, just need to get an 04 ECU and have me do the key mod for you. I'd say that is cheaper than buying the 06 parts for a few extra hp.

A new gasket is only $3

When I originally raised the question to the AZ community, some of my curiousity was for the long term. I can easily see ITB's being created in addition to more '06 owners buying headers, aftermarket cat's, etc due to FI availability. This would translate into what eventually developed for the B-series owners: A huge market for OEM parts.
Just curious, what resource are you using to obtain part numbers and prices?
