2005 Legacy prices out!!! (Sort of...)

It's unofficial but the news is pretty credible.

An independent source has established that (sales person who went in for training):

2.5i $20,900 plus dest
2.5gt sedan $25,900 plus dest
2.5gt wagon $26,900 plus dest

This data was also compared to the story from Automotive News confirming that Legacy and Outback prices will increase about 3~4%. This places the sales person's price pretty close to what Subaru is indicating. Final prices are not out yet, but this seems to be a pretty set price increase.

I figure the Limited editions of the legacy, which adds leather and sunroof among various other little doodas, will probably add aboot 2 grand or so to the price, which would definitely place it within the TSX competition level.

Now I'm thinking, if I can get the sunroof as a stand alone option of the wagon, I'd be checking it out for sure.

Junkster, whose buddy at Subaru dealership promised a decent price for the 2005.

You can look at the Subaru site, among other independent reviews, but the preliminary numbers should be coming soon.

Just keep in mind that the engine is being reported as 250 hp in the GT single turbo (twin scroll). AWD should add a bit of weight, though.

Junkster, who wonders how much the AWD system adds to the overall weight.

Agree! This thing is gonna give the TSX a run for its money as far as sales goes. I think the AWD is a big positive for the car comparede to the TSX.

Man, that's a damn good price. AWD, 250hp...

And I like the exterior too, they look quite handsome as well.

I also like that nose hole that most subaru has.

But I love my TSX more (perhaps it's because I've already brought it )

Haha..

Wow ... never been a big follower of Subaru, but the Legacy GT is a NIIIICE package. How is the reliability of them these days? Never been a big fan of the WRX ... but the GT seems much more well rounded

Bizzaro.

I was at the Subaru site b/c of this post, figured I'd see what the WRX comes with, besides the turbo boxer.

I hadnt seen that wing complementing the hoodscoop. Mr. Yuk!

Also, the seats are covered with "ecsaine." Wtf is ecsaine you ask? Commonly known as ultrasuede! Might look ok for a while, and probably grabs your butt nicely, but I have a difficult time believing it would stand up to wear and tear very well. Interesting, odd, odd vehicle!

?

I found it kinda funny that one of the "interior" pics of the legacy showed the gas filler door open...kinda an odd thing to take a picture of but it isnt a bad looking car, and that 250hp AWD package is sweet.

I heard that it's normal for Subaru clutches to wear out in 50K miles - watch out if you buy an MT!

The thing that worries me the most is the fact that Legacys have been notorious for having various problems ranging from trannie to ECU throughout all its reincarnations. It goes away by the middle of it's production run, but the first two years are the big problems in the product.

If Subie can stop that streak of production problems, this might be a pretty good alternative to the A4/A6, among other entry level lux cars.

Junkster, who never like the WRX... always a EVO loyalist.

it seems like the new price for Legacy GT limited will put it on the same boat as G35/TL....and the base Legacy will be in the TSX range.....in term of city driving and stop and go traffic, what do u guys think about Legacy in term of performance when compared to G35/TL or even TSX?? seems like subaru's AWD is more reliable and offer more performance gain than G35's AWD...and i think the turbo + AWD will have advantage or TL and TSX's FWD......u guys thoughts on this??

Depends, in part, on whether you want a turbo. I, for one, do not. I'd get a Saab if I wanted a turbo.

The G35 probably provides a much more linear power delivery since it is working with a 6, compared to a 4 banger turbo in the Legacy GT. The AWD system in the G35 is actually more highly praised than the Subie's. The ATTESSA system has been in the Skyline family for a few generations now, and it's been compared to the Quattro system. (Now with SH-AWD, people are going to the drawing board again).

Saab turbos haven't been the most impressive from my experiences with the 9-3. Audi's turbo isn't bad, but both Saab and Audi engines struggle at high throttle from being such small displacements.

I've never driven the WRX, so I can't say on the Subie turbos though.

Junkster, whose Audi was not a turbo.

I just got an e-mail from my local dealership and the GT Limited is going to be $30,270. That price is a little to close to the G35 and TL. I think for 28 MSRP it would be a good deal but that extra couple grand puts it to close to some great cars,

Official prices are out.

2.5i sedan = 20,995 manual, 21,995 4sp
2.5i wagon = 21,995 manual, 22,995 4sp
2.5i sedan Limited = 24,445 man, 25,445 4sp
2.5i wagon Limited = 25,645 man, 26,645 4sp

Now for the good ones...

GT sedan = 25,995 man, 27,195 5sp
GT wagon = 26,995 man, 28,195 5sp
GT Limited sedan = 28,495 man, 29,695 5sp
GT Limited wagon = 29,695 man, 30,895 5sp

Prices were what most of the guesstimation were around, so that's good. The near 3 grand jump between the reg GT and the GT limited wagon is kinda depressing.

Now, to schedule a drive in this thang, mang.

Junkster, whose never bought a Subaru before.

Damn, the one day I don't bring my digital camera... I'll have to see if I can borrow one from somebody here at work....

Subaru has a display set up here as part of their sponsorship of the Boston Marathon. They have a blue STi, a Forester... and yes... a 2005 Legacy 2.5GT Sedan (silver ext/black int).

I've gotta admit, it's a nice looking car. Sharp lines. The interior was pretty nice looking too, not very Subaru-ish. Funny fact though... the shift knob was broken off... hope that's covered under warranty.
