2004 Acura tsx Q!?
So I have been looking at 4-cyl, and have almost pulled the trigger on Used accords, or camry. I have 5k cash and was considering just buying something at that price. Well turns out I have the opportunity to buy a 2004 Acura TSX Navi with 81k miles in Great condition. Sell price is 14900. (new tires, fresh detail, touched up exterior, mechanic checked out rockchips) (dealer-friend)
I know these Honda/acura are known for reliability but I drive 80miles day for work and would this car be able to continue to put on 20-25k a year for upwords of 160k?
Also to the recent buyers what did you purchase your car for? Good deal for me or wait a month or so?
Well I enjoy my 80 miles daily and payment with this car?
Thanks for the info, any other issues or suggestions would be nice. I used the search function but only found out to date info. Looking for 2008 reviews or stories of their 04 tsx. BTW.. Long time luker!! *hope to join the club soon with a tsx"

howdy.
the '04 had more problems than any other TSX.
except the new '09's aren't starting out well either.
'04 was the first model year of the TSX, so naturally there
were a few bugs.
some are small like the lights go out in the dash area or in the
heated seats buttons.
some are big like the whole A/C setup fails, costing like $4000 to repair.
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...576&highlight=
so keep that in mind.
looking up the TSB's for the 2004 TSX is a good idea too.
If it were me, I'd pay a bit more and get an '05 or an '06.

You should get a 06 because people say that this is the sweet spot to get the most of the TSX. I believe the 06 does not have the TPMS which is a pain if you want some hot-spanking wheels on your car. The frontal of the car looks better for the 06 - 08 models.

i agree with all the above. I'd spring for an 06 if you can find one. if you're financing then the few extra thousand spread out over your payment wont be that much of a hit monthly. for the little extra you spend you'll avoid plenty of headaches and be way happier in the end.

I owned a 04 TSX and only had some minor issues, such as seat heater light out, a couple of rattles, but nothing major. Great car and I ran 50 miles round trip comute to work. But the 05/06 do have a few more bells and whistles, such as bluetooth, passenger power seat, etc. Good luck with your search.

I would not be afraid of the '04s like some of the posts would suggest here. Radio lights going out was a limited group of cars affected and most likely will not happen or already has been replaced. If you were really paranoid, just avoid getting the initial roll out identified by the 'green ring'. My 'blue ring' 04 is doing just fine for me.

I still have my '04 and experienced the "lights out" issue ppl are speaking of, not a real issue as this is being covered by Acura under an extended warrranty and the fix is working.
Agree with others about the extra bells and whistles on the '06+ models but if the car is as sweet as you say and it checks out ok, shouldn't be a deal breaker.
Buying any car is emotional experience, but if you find one that is pampered and feels right you can't always be as selective. My '04 has been the best Honda (Acura) I ever owned.
Also, the '04 wasn't a brand new model as it was being sold as the Euro Accord for a the 2003 MY. Either way, best of luck and you will love it.
If there is any major negative, it uses Premium. Otherwise mileage is very good.

^^ especially with the auto. My commute is about 75% hwy 25% city and I only get 26mpg with the 6spd. (Not sure why since I never push the car and shift between 2k-3k rpm's).
I've heard people with auto's tell me they get 33-35mpg with 100% hwy driving.

Also, since there are so many factors involved (temp, altitude, wind, road surface, traffic, filters, octane consistency, etc.) the best you can get is a reasonably good average.
Here are some of my numbers if anyone is interested (haven't had time to post all yet):

Don't want to get off track with mileage figures but.... I question ppl who claim such high numbers. It's not impossible but they must be driving very slow. I check my mileage at every tankful (since day one) and the Navi has always shown between 10% - 20% higher than what I calculate using the trip odo and calculator.

I have an 04 have had no problems with it, i think 14900 is a bit high for the mileage. A couple of days after i bought mine a guy offered me his 04 TSX w/navi and it had 50k on it for 14000 about 6 months ago. I got my 04 with 26k on it for 15500. keep looking to get the best deal, you might wanna try cars.com or autotrader.com and see if they might have any thing.

I'm averaging 200 kms (125 miles) per day since I got my 04 TSX 3 months ago and yes you will be happy with it.
Some of the reasons I bought this instead of other cars in the $20k range was the 4 cyl. 200hp engine, HID headlights, the comfort and quietness in the cabin although still sporty to drive, and the design of the TSX.
I've gotten as much as 37mpg on the hwy and as low as 23 in town.
Since you are on the road a lot, rock chips may be a problem since TSX paint is known to be not so good. I was fortunate enough to have the whole front of my car re-sprayed before I bought it (92k kms).
I say go with the TSX.
