2004 (or 2005?) Mugen kit fitment on 2006...

Will a 2004 (or maybe 05) Mugen kit fit on a 2006? My main concern is the fitment of the rear lip and the side skirts.

Lip kit will need the proper year to fit unless you custom fabricate it...

Side skirts fit no problem i'm running 06-08 oem aspec sides.

rear you will run into the different bumper, as well as the front.

Little confused but i read this as you want to know if the full mugen 04 kit will fit on the next body 06-07, etc right? If so:

the front fascia [full fascia] will not fit properly without modifications. If you look closely at the 04 and 06 front grille area and the hood you will notice slight differences in width and overhang, etc.

Not sure on rear.

Side skirts i've seen on someones car, but haven't seen if they needed to mod it at all.

Lip kit would be a definite NO as the front fascias change around the fog lamps quite a bit.. once again this is what i'm told.

If i'm wrong i'd love to know because i once asked this same question and eventually had a body man look at the two cars to decide. Even king motorsports will tell you the same thing i just said though.

BTW where can you get an 04 kit still?

BTW what i mean by the fascia changing can be seen here:
2007:

2004:

Look next to the grille and the "bar" that comes up in between the grille and headlamps changes thickness between the models. Either this means the headlamps changed [doubt it] or the grille's did. I'd assume grille because the 04 had that little chrome lip on the tip of the hood that sort of finished the grille. the later years did not. So while its possible the front fascia would fit, its doubtful that it would without some mods.

This is all i know, and once again perhaps i'm wrong.

And once again.. a lip kit is definitely out of the question.

no.

bumper for the 04-05 mugen kit will fit, but look a bit off maybe.
the hoods for the 04-05 are different than the 06-08.
on the 04-05, part of the grille is on the hood, on the 06-08, the grille is independent.

the bumpers on the back are different too, so no back lip kit will fit.

to put the 04-05 kit on an 06-08, you should get:

an 04-05 hood (not completely necessary though)
an 04-05 front bumper if it's a lip kit, if not, the bumper will fit.
an 04-05 rear bumper (which may mess with the exhaust output locations as well)

side skirts are interchangable between all years.

you can buy both and all kits at kingmotorsports the official Mugen importer for the US.

Basically, because of the cost and labor, mixing the years is a hassle.
the 04-05 bumper kit can go on an 06-08 with a replacement back bumper first,
and you can get away with leaving the hood.

I personally have struggled greatly with lip kits and bumper kits.
none of them have really struck my fancy I guess.... maybe a 06-08 full mugen bumper kit?...

jus a side note, does 04-05 hood fit an 06 car?
just fitting issue, i know there's the extra chrome part on 04-05, and 06 does not have that.

yes it does.

the only difference in the hoods is the chrome piece.

I'm over 90% sure on this one.

now... an 04-05 hood on a stock 06-08 would just look plain stupid.
so if you're going to do that, be sure to get an 04-05 bumper or something.

the 04-05 Mugen bumper is nice.

I don't know about that. I read in another thread that the newer hoods are a little longer and will overhang if put on an 04/05.

This is just hearsay though so consider this information with that in mind.

I think I've seen pictures of this. The issue is the area around where the headlights meet the grille

Thanks for the input guys. Only reason I am asking is because someone is selling the whole kit (although heavily scratched) for $800... The front bumper was not a main concern for me since I already switched to an '05 bumper, so I was mostly worried about the rear...

I guess it's time to get an '05 bumper, somewhere... Hmm...

WOW, i knew about the front bumper change, but I can't see what the difference was in the rear bumpers. Also was there a change in the headlamps and taillights?

yes.

the headlamps changed, but all changes were internal.
the side plastic pieces (the orange ones) changed design.
the ballasts for the HID lights changed.

the taillights changed, but all changes were internal.
basically they just darkened the reverse light circle a tad.

the rear bumper changed, and you can clearly see the change
when you look at where the exhaust tips are.

the hood changed, the chrome piece was removed, the new
06-08 hood has no grille trim on it at all, just the painted hood.
I heard about that overhang thing, but it's a myth in my book.
not sure though, that's why I'm not 100%.

the grille is completely different, it changed.

the front bumper is completely different.
changed the look, the size, and added oem fog lights.

side skirts probably changed, but stayed the same in size and length.
