2 day old tsx, dealer hid rock chips
Okay, I did a search, couldn't find exactly this topic so...
I picked up the car on Sat, what I didn't notice until today was that they used touch-up paint or something similar to hide a large group of chips on the left (when facing the front of the car) fender and hood, all near each other. My guess is something like rocks must have hit the car when in travel. Anyway, today I was cleaning the car and the spots (which I thought were dirt) rubbed off leaving the whitish base coat underneath! I would guess there are about 15 spots like this.
I was going to get the clear bra and tinting done tomorrow, should I go ahead, its not in the same location, though partially on the same panels.
Do I have any chance of getting the dealer to fix the problem? Or should I just accept it and get a paint pen and try and do my best myself?
Its Arctic Blue by the way, ebony & nav. No pics sorry, too dark in the garage right now.
Thanks.

Im no lawyer, but you did look at the car and purchase it...At the same time, the dealer obviously tried to conceal it, but they can play the ignorance card.
In any event I would definetly go back to the dealer and raise a shit storm...If what you say is true, than business practices like that should not be tolerated...
good luck and hope for some deceny

It had about 3 miles on it. I didn't notice it when I bought the car. Whatever they used to 'touch it up' easily rubs off with your finger. Its all in one area on the car from the top left of the hood over to the side of the fender, nowhere else on the car has any problems.

I'd take it back and show them how it rubs off and ask WTF? The car may need to be repainted in that area, not touched up! You may also want to look into giving the car back and get another.

Take it back. Preferably during a busy day. Make a scene -- enough of one to get the attention of other customers. They'll be far more inclined to make you happy quickly.

I wish I could take it back during the middle of the day, but thats not possible with my work schedule. I am calling them though, and making sure they know it needs to be repainted correctly. Let you all know what happens though.

I talked with the dealer, they were quite apologetic actually. I am taking the car down to the dealer (its a 60 mile drive) tonight, they said they will fix it correctly, refill the gas for me and give me a loaner, so that sounds fine so far. Just have to see how, and how well they fix it.

Yeah a new car is a pipe dream, thats not going to happen.
I took it in and dropped it off. The sales manager looked at it and said it would be fixed by airbrushing (which is what I tought). Its not scratches, what we think happened is that something like brake fluid got on the paint in a couple of spots and well it 'rubberizes' the paint, and that is what looks like touch-up pain, except you can rub it off. We aren't talking the whole door panel or hood or fender or anything, its just a three small areas on each with a cluster of spots.
Anyway, they said it would take 2-3 days likely to get it fixed and said it would be done properly and I wouldn't be able to tell it was repaired. The services dept was told to bill 'sales' for the repair, which the sales manager estimated at about $900 to do correctly. He said they would go after the shipping company for the damage. I also don't think he was too happy with the salesmen for letting the car go out like that. I have no idea if they dock his commission for stuff like this but it doesn't surprise me.

Oh, and now I have a silver/grey 06 AT TSX as a loaner, not bad, but it seems so different with a grey interior, and I didn't realize you can't talk to your car if it doesn't have NAV. Too bad it has huge words 'LOANER' on the front window.

i bought a used car and was not happy with some things i discovered after sale. i went back within the first 3 days and made sure to complain on the floor. they were very accomidating. it took about a month, and they are totally sick of me, but for the most part i got what i wanted.

Well, the price was estimated by a sales manager, not a repairmen, besides, they probably just wanted to make it sound really expensive or something since they are footing the bill. I can't imagine it would actually cost them that much.

The Power of a Grill
our cost of a new front bumper = $350
repair shop cost of a new front bumper = $250
our cost of strip and paint front bumper = $350
to get a brand new bumper AND completely painted would be $700US for us (not them)
they are totally inflating the actual cost.
i had my front bumper airbrushed 3 times, peeled off each time. they had to strip and repaint the whole thing eventually. then it cracked a year later.

Sorry I couldn't resist with crappy MS Paint. I somehow imagined you to be driving around like this.
