07 tl key fob mod question

i remember when the tl keys were announced and people were all getting into it, i read somewhere that when u go to get the immoblizer programmed to work with car, you have to take all your keys, the driver 1, driver 2, and the vallet. is this correct? i tried searching where i read that but i just cant find it.

I don't believe thats true. I'm pretty sure you just need to take the new fob and they program it to match all your other keys.

^^Correct.

You only need the key that you want the ECU to find and it has to be cut so that it will work in the ignition. That's it.

typically, how much does the dealer charge for cutting the key, programming it, and etc?

Sorry, but I believe you guys are wrong.

The OP is correct - you need to have all your keys present when reprogramming your immobilizer.

The programming tool that the technician will use essentially resets your immobilizer. Consequently, each key that you plan to use with your car has to be relinked to the new code in your immobilizer.

I have personally had this done to my car, so I know you'll need all your keys present when reprogramming the immobilizer. If you want further proof, check FLBusa's thread in the BM. Other people have confirmed that this is the correct procedure.

Actually, this depends upon the programmer being used by the locksmith to program the key.

For dealerships, they use the HDS programmer, which will allow you to simply add one key to your existing keys.

For everyone else, they use a programmer that is compatible with Honda's data system, but is not the exact same HDS programmer that is used by the dealerships. For these, you need to bring all keys to ensure that they all get programmed.

Clear enough?

so i took my key to a local locksmith and they said that they werent able to recognize the transponder on both the oem tsx key and the tl key with their machines. whats going on? is it just that their computer/machine or w.e is old and unable to identify the high tech keys?

Actually, when I got a spare key made at the dealer, they want all the keys at the same time. If I didn't have all the keys, they will not gurantee the rest of the keys will work.

I got my KEYS done a month ago (06 TSX keys to TL Switchblade keys)

they made sure i bring all my keys to the dealer, all the immobilizer in each key has to be re-done at the same time.
everything works perfectly, along with my new TL key that was done as "memory 1 key"

finally, me TL key, 06 TSX Memory 1 key, TSX Memory 2 key and spare key ALL works .

it was a great service, the dealer had done some other Acurazine members the same mod.

they charged 48.00.

but u need to find cheaper dealer, some other local Acura Dealer asked 150 ~200 for the keys done.

i think the best/fastest way is to just simply bring it to the dealer and let them figure it out

technically, the remote should work fine (unlock, lock, trunk).

where did you get the key cut and (immobilizer)programmed?
if you got them at a dealer, you shouldn't have any problem.

Assuming you have an 04, just follow the instructions on the back of the key to unlink the transmission of the memory seat info.

I had to go to two locksmiths.. from what I can tell, the locksmiths need to buy "upgrade" modules for the newer Honda locks. If they don't have the right adaptor the device won't work. The first locksmith seemed to have the right adaptor but when he plugged it into my car it did not recognize the system. He mentioned they had bought the upgrade and didn't know why it wasn't working. The second place I took it to had no problem.

From some dealers responses, I think they are actually using one of these locksmith devices to program the keys. I'm not sure if they don't realize that they can do it with the HDS, but one local Acura dealer told me I'd have to bring the car in on a day when they have the programmer. Maybe they have a locksmith do it, since they wanted to charge me $109 and a locksmith does it for $40 maybe that is some quick profit for them. So this may be why some dealers want you to bring in all your keys. If the HDS is used it can ADD a new key by looking up some special code, if a hand-held key programmer is used it OVERWRITES all the keys so each one has to be programmed (and of course you need to bring all your keys).

No, the instructions that moda_way put up were to program the remote, not the key.

You only need 1 key. My guess is the dealership doesn't want to accidently erase a key, so they test them all after they add a key. Here is the actual procedure directly from AllData.:
Procedure

1.Use an appropriate key blank and a suitable code key cutter to cut a new ignition key (see S/B 99-010, Cutting keys With the Exacta Code key Cutter).
2.Connect the HDS to the 16P data link connector (DLC).
3.Insert a programmed ignition key into the ignition switch, and turn the switch to ON (II). Turn on the HDS.
4.At the screen prompts, enter the VIN and the odometer reading, and then verify the correct date and time.
5.From the System Selection Menu screen, select IMMOBI.
6.From the Mode Menu screen, select Immobilizer Setup.
7.From the Immobilizer Test Mode Menu screen, select Add and Delete Keys.
8.From the Add and Delete Keys screen, select Add 1 Key.
9.From the Add 1 Key screen, select Begin to add 1 key.
10.From the 1st Password screen, enter the 1st Password, and then follow the screen prompts. When you are finished, turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and then turn oft and disconnect the HDS.
