06+ Navigation in 04-05 TSX

Has anyone put an 06 or better Navigation system in their 04-05 TSX?

I want to add navi to my car, and wouldn't mind getting bluetooth functionality as well, while i'm already working on it.

I don't believe you can do it as an issue with our ECU. The cars differed significantly in those year changes so I don't think you can do it.

Yes, it is possible and I believe it has been done a couple of times. You will need to make sure that you get everything, including the navi hardware in the trunk, the steering control (for the bluetooth), etc.

sortudo, the ECU controls the engine, not the electronics inside the cabin. For example, the ECU doesn't help the radio manage the reception of radio signals.

But how would that work with the caller ID? Does that show up on the nav screen? Mine's non navi so the only thing that shows on the display is Handsfree Link. The caller ID info shows up on the MID, which the 05 doesn't have.

My mistake, the ECU controls the engine...brain fart thanks to work lol. As for the navi itself I believe it has issues since the 06 worked differently. For instance, I know you can do an 08 into the 06 but not the earlier years. Not 100% sure as to the complete conflict but I haven't seen anyone do something like putting the 06 into an 04 though. Not to say it may not work but I think it isn't worth the hassle.

OP, I imagine you have no navi in your car at all? You're gunna also look at a lot of work to run the wires, antenna etc to make sure it all works. Idk if there was a thread here or somewhere else where someone put a navi in their car but from the same year, i.e. 07 navi in an 07. I'll see if I can find the thread somewhere.

That non nav to nav install was waaaaayyyy tooooo much work. I remember reading it and thinking someone has way tooo much time on their hands. but hen he traded it in, they gave him Nav value for it. But it was crazy how much crap had to be done. he did it in an 04.

Thanks for the response James. How long did the installation take?

Any issues with the climate control on the navi? I remember a user having this issue, at least initially.....

Good luck. You could always check fleabay. If you search TSX Navigation there seems to be a guy on there who sells a whole kit for 05, which should work with your 04. I'm trying to find an 08 set, but to no avail.

I've spoken to that guy before. he's a nice dude. Only problem is installing without instructions could be difficult. THere's a guy on here flopez, that did it and posted pics. All those links are broken though now.

The ECU's for the nav and base cars have different part numbers. The nav gets info from the ECU - vehicle speed at a minimum...

it doesn't matter, both ECUs has the pinouts needed for the navi to work. Although not common, a non-navi to navi conversion has been done multiple times

no, not a single issue with the climate. interchanging the harness for the climate control is plug and play, nothing has to be modded for it.

It took me about a week of studying the wiring diagram (you NEED the service manual and electronic manual) and remaking the harness. BUT, i do have an advantage in this area as im an electrical engineer.

once the harness is ready, the actual installation takes about 2 hours (taking apart the rear deck and seats)

When you got your parts did you get any wiring harnesses with it? What kind of modifications had to be made to make it work? I'm considering the project, and I know its not just a plug and play, but I'm wondering what kind of wiring mess I'm getting myself in to. The actual install shouldn't be a problem, I'm just worried about the wiring.

You NEED at least the pigtails. It's very near impossible to source just the harness connectors. Once you do have the pigtails, its a matter of following the wiring diagram to recreate the harness. Other than that, you need to splice into the ECU for couple wires and run a wire to the fuse/ground and that's about it, no additional modification required.
