05 TSX w/nav upgraded to 06 Nav w/Zagat

Well I got the chance to test the 06 Navigation system from a 06 Accord. What I did was swapped out the DVD drive from a 2006 Accord with my 05 TSX DVD rom drive. The plugs on the back matched up so I suspected it would work. And it did! Everything work out as planned. The voice activation, the steering controls, the joystick......all of it! The only slight problem I found was the calibration of the touch screen was a bit off. But, i'm sure you can fix that easily somehow, never tried. I took some pics of the units for comparison.

And I also put the 05TSX Navigation system in the 06 Accord to see if it would work that way as well, and it did.

When I switched out the system, the “trip computer” info was still there. The accord gas mileage showed up in my car and my trip info showed up in the Accord.

Everything seemed to work fine! Here are some pics form the test. I know! I know! They're blurry.....

that's awesome. im assuming when the 06 TSXs roll out, the monitor calibration issue you experienced shouldn;'t be an option if you were to swap in the new dvd drive to the 04/05 models?

the question is how much it will cost to upgrade to the new one.

Enter navigation diagnostic mode by simultaneously holding Map/Guide, Menu, and Cancel for a couple of seconds.

Then:
Monitor Check -> Touch Panel Calibration

CJams, what are the extra green plugs on the back? Could it have anything to do with Bluetooth?

They weren't hooked up in the Accord. I'm assuming those are from other functions/options such as in the RL. Now I am on the quest to try the RL system Now if I can only find a RL guinnie pig for the RL test.

I forgot to mention that the Accord nav manufacture date is June05 and the TSX's unit is Feb 05 so they aren't too far apart.

Well done, CJams. I have a feeling this will be expensive to do when the 06s come out.

Did you really have to swap the DRIVE units ? Couldn't you just pop the Accord DVD disk in to see the differences ?

^^^^No! didn't work!

The speed is noticeable! Thats why I ran the test, to see if it would work in the TSX.

Unfortunately the DVD unit costs about $650 (for the '04 and '05) from what I've been able to find. Here's to hoping there's another train wreck and parted out TSX parts to be had!

The real difference is the speed. After playing with it for a while I realized it wasn't as fast as I thought, but it is definately faster than the 05. Here is a shot with the Zagat reference.

Thx all!

If it hasn't been proven wrong, I am more than willing to try it. Even if it has been proven faulty and I think there is way to make it work, I will still try. We wouldn't have half the inventions in the world if people listened to the "Nay Sayers."

Don't you need to change the front end (console & screen) to allow for Ipod or Blue tooth integration?

I suspect they would use those two extra mystery ports.

Perhaps, but remember that XM is already connected to the nav unit.

I doubt one slot is for bluetooth.

Why?

Because non-navi models have bluetooth as well.

Yes, but the NAV can send phone numbers to the bluetooth.
