CJAMS, just swapping that drive will speed up nav system????? you should borrow that drive for couple of weeks and test it out to see if it works safely if it works well i'm thinking about doing this!

My local Acura dealer says that part is $4100 -- OUCH. I called the local Honda dealer and read them the part# (39540-SDA-A510-M1) and they said the replacement part is $2547.63 -- also OUCH!

I would love upgrade my '05 NAV, but does anyone know if these units are available for less? I think someone mentioned $600. I would consider that price.

How much does your job up north pay? I'm about to shit-can a guy soon. And well....

But I think you just do this shit for fun. The fun factor goes away when you're having to put shit product into shit cars.

Just a thought.

Cut it out, you are making me jealous now! lol
I had a chance to test out the RL navigation system and this seems really similar. That thing not only has the bluetooth, faster cpu, but you can also say the names of the road instead of typing them in with your finger. That keeps your eyes on the road so you can program it while you are driving without comprimisins safety.

Cheapest method is gonna probably be going through the junk yards once a couple of people wreck these things. Then you might get the DVD as well so that's another almost $200 you'll save.

You talkin to me? If so...I happen to have some free time soon Scheduled to be a "free agent" starting on Thursday....

--------------------------------------------

This is a plug and play project here! I didn't cut any wires to do it. And yes it did speed up the system. I cant wait to get in to the trunk of an 06TSX and try that box out.....hmmmm... I wonder if Acura has an 06 on the lot yet?

@CJams

Finally found a relevant thread to my problem. i saw your thread using the 2006 dvd drive in a 2005 tsx. well my 2004 tsx dvd drive crapped out and i am replacing it with a 2006 tsx drive. so is it truly hot swappable? is there anything that wont work 100% afterwards? i have no help from the dealer cause i am out of warranty. however i am good with electronics and taking my tsx apart. i did a few other custom installs, like a computer in the trunk, etc.

so i plan on adding the bluetooth hands free and xm function as well once i get this 2006 drive installed. if you could shed any light that might help me i would be forever greatful. thanks a bunch.

also i gotta add the aux input hardware that the 06 comes with.

now will i have any problems with the upper display above the screen? i dont know how that is wired to the car, though i know it displays radio, A/C info. will i have to tamper with that upper screen as well to basically "convert" my 04 navi to 06 navi? or maybe i can just live without the upper screen being updated.

CJams appears to have sold his TSX so you might not get a quick response.

I'm wondering if anyone has done this too... I already installed a Parrot kit so i don't really need the BT or anything, but i'm interested in the faster computer / better nav system for my 04...

@ RP - Have you got the new drive yet? where did you get it and what did you pay? Interested to know how it all goes.

or at least is there anyone with the 2006 technical manual that can verify the connections of these accessories?

cause i am getting conflicting info about this install now. apparently the 06 HU has MID, which the 04 HU doesnt have. but i dont know what this is or even if its true. and is that true for the bluetooth only? or the xm unit as well? this guy wants to ship my hardware today, and i dont have an answer yet...

The MID is in the dash. I wasn't aware that the navi and MID in 06+ are linked...

well the MID displays the bluetooth, but the MID doesnt need to be there to function. it can still work fine without the MID in an 04 tsx. i'm gonna upgrade the instrument cluster anyway for the MID. but i dont know if i like the newer style compared to the white gauges of the 04.

besides zagat, its just a speed difference?

i mean if you can have xm traffic this MIGHT be worth it. but as of now, seems like a waste unless you get the unit for dirt cheap.

Well i don't have a choice in the matter about upgrading the navi. My 04 navi broke and i'm out of warranty. If i have to buy a new drive there's no point to get another 04 when i can get an 06 and have more current navi. Its a simple swap from what i've researched.

Wow I didn't realize you were gonna do the cluster too...

I'm very interested to see how it turns out. Take plenty of pics of your install. BTW where are you getting the parts?

well i just decided to do it after researching what i would need to do to get it to work. i havent picked out where i'm gonna get the cluster and new steering wheel buttons yet. but i got the 06 drive from ebay. i'll take plenty of pics no worries. i just dont know when i can do the install because the drive and HFL prob wont get here till next week. and i would have to have the other parts ordered to have them all arrive at the same time. so i might get the drive before everything else and just pop it in, then do the HFL install a week later or something. i'll definitely post when i'm doing it all though. hope i dont run into any major problems or issues! i heard the steering column sucks cause you gotta remove the airbag. not lookin forward to that.

Well guys i finally finished swapping out my old 04 dvd drive with an 06 drive, and it works! i will say that yes, as the OP said, there is a slight misalignment with the touchscreen. after looking at the 04 helms manual, it looks like the 04 tsx touchscreen has 9 by 20 touch points. and the newer navi's have 10 by 20 touch points. so there is one extra row of touch inputs. the top half of the screen works great, but once you get to the bottom of the screen, the navi system think you pressed the spot above it when you actually press the bottom row of buttons. this is not a probelm for 98% of menus because it still registers the button that you press. but on 1 screen where the virtual keyboard comes up, you cannot select the bottom buttons. you can still use the joystick though.

so overall this was an awesome swap! compared to the old 04 navi, the newer one is significantly faster. the menus are so much better it makes the old one look outdated. and zagat is great! all my streets are more updated, and its just great all around. like a new car again!

The 2006 thru 2008 TSX NAV's all use the same "White" version NAV DVD-ROM. So the NAV system at least is probably the same.

Awesome! Glad to hear it worked out well for you. Did you take pics of the install?

I haven't sold my car yet, but it is still an option. We will see. The summer went well enough so I might be able to keep it and get my tow truck as ewll. Stopped back by the site to check in on iPod adapters for my baby. Post pics of that install if ya got'em
