Rear brakes should take about 30min-1hr to do. So depends what your mechanic is charging per hour.

I got 80k on the Pontiac 6000, and when I traded the '04 TSX at 45k, the pads appeared to be about half gone.

AS jlukja stated, the average is probably around 30k.

It depends a lot on your driving style and where you live. You will use up brakes much faster in a big city like Atlanta, Boston, NYC, etc. than in a small town or a rural area. Where I currently live has a 20 MPH speed limit over about half the town and a 35 MPH speed limit over the other half. So, I am seldom need to apply brakes at speeds over 30 MPH. In the Atlanta area, and especially North Atlanta, you have traffic lights on roads with 65 MPH speed limits. So, you find yourself having to apply the brakes at 70 MPH. If I recall correctly, the energy increases by the square of the speed, so at 60 MPH, it takes four times as much braking force/wear/friction/heat/etc to stop than at 30 MPH.

In this town, many of the traffic lights are synchronized. In Atlanta, it seemed that the traffic lights were designed to ensure that you had plenty of opportunity to see the town.

I have 80k on my car right now. I last changed the brake to Racing Brake rotors and hawks pad at 45k. It is starting to squeak in the rear of the car. I know there is some pads still left. Is it time to change and resurface the rotors already?

nevermind. The rear rotor was touching the disc cover while I was rotating the tires two weeks ago. Rear RB rotors shifts sometimes because it doesn't have oem matching rotor screws. Torque it right and it should be fine.

I wanted to say that I had my front rotor's resurf at 36k I bought my car with 34k. I was told that my back were at the time at 40% and my front one were at 60% . My experience with my 2005 TSX has been very satisfactory. Even though I've read about minor issues like the rotor's and the breakpad I love this car I'm always traveling in it. Lets just put it this way I got this car to substitute my daily car and I have no remorsed whatsoever.
I got about 12k miles left in my warranty I doubt that I'm going to use it. today is my first oil change since i got the car. with a Month and half driving it I get around 420-450 miles with a full tank of 93 octane. Only mod that i have done I took off the resonator and put a K&N filter, and open the fog vents with a drimmers so incoming air would get in easier through the cone...

Other than that like i said I love this car as cruiser, it is confortable enough like the power in 2gear-5gear (expecially when the lift happen).

Previously i had a 2000 Celica GT-S for my daily driving and i was in love with that car. Good thing love is not forever cuz my new love is this TSX

If you think 20 is bad, you should see on my sister's new 08 Accord. 15k miles and she needed new ones for the rear. I think part of the problem is that Honda is not using enough lube on the caliper slider bolts and pad shims. There was definitely uneven wear, more from the inside than the outside. Since I do the work myself, the next time I have to replace them, I'll re-lube the caliper slider bolts and hopefully that will give them some extra life.

i do probably 75% highway driving.

had my rears replaced at around 30k miles, though i probably could have gone another 7-8k miles on them (supposely they had about 20% left).


havent changed the fronts out yet and they are at just over 40k. probably will replace those in a few thousand more miles just incase.

Tech says that I still have more than 50% front brake pad life on my TSX and I'm at 35,000 miles. I've never changed the front but the rear was changed once. Surprising that the rear wears out a lot quicker. Maybe because I don't brake as hard.

what do u guys reccommend i get for brake pads? the OEM ones or the hawk?

I'll wait for everyone to respond with the Hawks, but you can't go wrong with the OEM ones. Just don't buy some cheap crap from Pepboys.
I may be switching to the Hawks for the rear pads on my sister's 08 as the common squealing problem is back after 1k miles. Everyone on the Accord boards have been complaining about this and I refuse to buy a new Accord because of that reason (well there are others too).

just had my 06 tsx serviced by the dealer. They told me I still had a lot of brake pad life left on my original pads. it has 57,000 mostly highway miles

My local shop said that they have to order the parts. They can't guarantee the work if I brought in parts as they say.

The set of 4 brembo rotors and 4 akebono pads were around 400 including shipping.

The local shop wanted 600 out the door. about 200 dollar labor....

You really don't need to go with either. It usually is what you prefer but staying with OEM is just as good. Sure you may get a bit more grip with ceramics but it's up to you if you are really going to beat the crap of of your car.
