05 Navigation Not Upgradeable to 06 Navigation

I just looked at Acura's store

04~05 Navi DVD - Version 3.50 (releasing October 2005)
06 Navi DVD - Version 4.31

Well that sucks. I guess there's gonna be a pretty big difference on the 06 navi. So much that we can't just pop in a DVD to upgrade.

How do you know that you won't be able to just use the Version 4.31 disc?

you're right. Maybe the 3.50 is the same thing as 4.31. But I doubt it.

All of the data for Navi is included on the DVD, including software updates. So even if the software is different on the '06 the only way that you wouldn't be able to use the new DVD is if they completely changed all of the hardware, making the new software incompatible with the new DVD. From the information I have seen this is not the case, so we should have nothing to worry about when they realease the new DVD other than the $180.

Honda is a business, and they are trying to sell cars. I highly doubt they would make one of the features that sells their cars as easily upgradable as switching a disk. I just don't see it, but i could be wrong...what the hell do I know?

Yea, but Honda is a buisness, they're aiming for customer loyalty. Its not that theres a huge market share that people that own the TSX will buy another one...which is why i hope they'll realize to incorporate 04/05 for the Ipods, cause thats a whole market that they can gain, and never will if they don't give the option to.

It's not about selling more cars, it's about making us buy a new disk every year if we want the updated software. Every year they change up the software a little bit, they add features, change the look, add destinations, etc. Plus it doesn't take a marketing executive to know that no ones going out and buying a new car because their navi disk is out of date.
