04 tsx, should I buy this car?

What's up everyone,

This is first time being here for me.
I've had sr20det black top 240 convertible and RX8 for my past. I am looking into get a 4door, reliable, good mpg, front wheel car for my job, and tsx came to my mind.

I have done some searches, I got this deal, tell me what you think...
It's 2004, auto tranny. 95k miles (5k miles left til warranty runs out.... ) 6 Disc CD changer, Power Tilt/Sliding Sunroof, Heated Leather Seats, Hid Headlights, Tinted windows, brand new tires 80k mile Goodyear Triple Tread, *This car has the added benefit of not only a navigation system but a DVD player that plays directly through the navigation screen. No accidents, warranty to 100k miles. Maintenance performed regularly but 90k tune-up has not been done, I am assuming tranny flush isn't done. exterior and interior seem good in pictures.

Price I got down to was $ 12k. The KBB said about 12k for this car.

I've read some issues of 04s. such as panel lighting issue, A/C issues, trunk harness, clips for front headlights, Navi errors. the only thing the seller told me was he took in once for warranty and it was for navigation he said.

any tips or anything I should look into this car before I purchase?

Thanks everyone

Psychiatry. The 2004 TSX is known for problems with a/c compressor, lighting, etc. With it way out of warranty, I'd pretty much assume you'll have to pay a few $1000s in repairs during ownership.

Sounds like the Navi system was hacked to play DVDs. Who the **** plays DVDs while driving? That's not a bonus in my book.

I'd look for a 2005 or 2006. If he'll come down in price and you can afford the repairs, maybe snatch this one.

Oh, and invest the $12 for a used car price report from Consumer Reports online. It's a bit more specific than KBB. Make sure you get a Carfax report too.

ask if it has the green key/ignition or the blue one. The green ones were the early 2004 models and there may be some more problems with them? dont quote me i may be completely wrong. I have a blue halo on mine, have done 22,000 kms (114,000 total) and no issues, other than the sunroof makes a creaking sound sometimes..haha

I was aware of the a/c failure and the headunit backlight problem before I bought mine. I asked the Acura dealer how many of each they have replaced on 04's and he said hardly any a/c's (4 in 4 years) and 4/10 for the headunit problem.. I have extended warranty until 152,000 that covers both of these.

btw 12k is a good price..

I have a late build '04 (VIN of 44,000 +) and had to have the headunit replaced because of the dead backlights. Other than that, my '04 has been rock solid with no issues whatsoever.

Don't trust the dealer when asking if the 04 has issues. I'm not saying he's a bad guy, but they're biased toward you buying the car.

Many people will say to just get on 05. 2006 would be optimal, but an 05 is better than 04.

Personally, I would stay away from the 04s. And the green light/blue light ignition thing is another warning sign. This has been confirmed over and over again by many people.

yes there are 2004 cars that have no problems, but in general, getting an 04 is a gamble.

BTW Sclass88, I'm happy yours is working alright.

Get an 05, or save up a bit more and get an 06.
