My car was hit while it was parked on the street and now the left rear quarter panel and rear bumper needs to be replaced (not counting what I can't see that's messed up). The hit was so hard that the right rear wheel is bent in and the car isn't drivable.

The insurance said it was a total loss and I kept the car to get it repaired. I've gotten quotes for 4500-5500 and one as low as 3000 but I'm wondering if it's worth repairing? How much should it cost? And if I should just sell it the way it is now?

Check out the pics

Welcome to the forums.

I deleted your other thread and moved this thread here since it is a general topic and not applicable to the subforums.

Sorry for your loss.

If your insurance said it's a total loss, I think you can only get a salvage title for the car now, which makes it difficult to insure and sell later if you want to. I would just let insurance total it and get a new car.

I was in the same situation as you awhile ago, and it's not worth getting the car fixed. If the insurance company even lets you, they'll give you $ for how much the car is worth, and you'll be on your own to fix it. If there is frame damage that isn't previously expected, your repair bill will be thousands more, and you'll be on you're own to pay for it.

And even worse, your car is going to have a salvaged title, so like someone said before, it will be hard to insure and even harder to sell.

I know it sucks, but I'd just take the money and salvage the car sorry for the loss

You'll be surprised how many Salvaged title cars are out there. From your despcription of the damage (can't see the pic, it shows a red X for me), someone will repair it and sell it . They do this type of stuff for a living and will make a profit on it. This days your typical auto dealer body shop is expensive, insurance companies are better off financially to total it.

My first car was rear ended one year after I bought it. By the look of it, surely they will total it, but it's cheaper for them to repaird it. Of course I have to keep it for a long time becuase it would be a huge loss if I try to sell the previous wrecked car. While I was not happy then, I ended up keeping the car for about 10 years.

So I think its really up to you, your net gain from the transaction, and how long you intent to keep the car. Salvaged title does not equal to bad car. Depending on mileage, it may have 5 more years of serviceable life. If you like a newer car, absolutely get rid of it. This gives you a reason to do so.

Sorry for the long post.

Depending on the state you live in, if you keep it and fix it, it will indeed have a salvage title and be worth much less. It is potentially less safe to drive as well. From what I've heard, if there is that much damage, it is very difficult to get it to drive straight again.
