Thumbs up 04 to an 06....WOW!

Hey guys,

I just finished the majority of the breaking in process on my new 06 ASM 5AT, non-navi this weekend and hit VTEC in it for the second time but for real this time. So i knew they had changed a bunch of little things from the 04-05 models to the 06 models like the intake size, exhaust size, and a few other things a few millimeters and i knew i felt a slight difference in the torque from 3k-4k but once you rev this thing it up, it pulls SOOO much harder than my 04 did. When my 04 would hit VTEC at 6100 RPM's, you could obviously feel and hear the change, but it wasn't like take your breath away or anything. But last night, i was in SS mode and let 1st gear wind out to the redline (just hit 660 miles) and when they hit 4500 RPM's it starting reving A LOT faster than the 04 EVER did, and then when it hit VTEC at 6100 RPM's, it literally moved my head back a little. This thing pulled and moved so fast that as soon as it hit 6100 it like jumped right to 7000 and i had to shift so that it revved to 7300 and hit 2nd gear appropriately due to the slight shift lag. But Acura gets a huge for the 06 modifications they made because there is seriously a huge differenece between this 06 and my 04. The power band is much more readily on tap when needed and it just pulls harder!! It def makes me want to get Hondata and be able to be in VTEC even after i shift out of 1st and into 2nd, but we'll see.

The MID is also a great little feature to have as well among the other little things that they added. I like the partially hidden windshield wipers too....lol

I do have one question, my oil life was at 90% when i hit 360 miles, is that normal or a little quick? I am not at 660 miles and its still at 90% but i jut wanted to make sure. I know that it doesn't mean that i am exactly 90%, if it isn't a hundred i know the MID displays in increments of 10, but i just wanted to make sure it isn't jumping down too quickly.

OH CRAP....i was still in the problem and fixes thread, can the moderators move this to "General Discussion" and delete this line?? Sorry guys!

Glad you're enjoying the new car. There are a lot of little changes that are definitely difficult to appreciate until you live with the car for a while. I too am looking forward to getting Hondata to compare it to my 04 that had the Hondata reflash.

I went from an '04 AT non-navi CGP to an '06 AT navi CGP. Besides all the bells/whistles changes, I could tell a noticeable difference in power and in the ride comfort, as well as the level of "road noise". It may be my imagination, but the transmission feels different, too -- in a good way....difficult to really describe.

I have to admit, though, that currently I have more "squeaks" and "pops" than I did in my '04. I'm trying to chalk it up to the really cold weather we've been having. But I don't recall even having any noises from my '04 through the two winters I had it. Both the '04 and the '06 have the vibration noise coming from the seatbelt tensioner -- that drives me CRAZY because I drive with the seat all the way back and it's right at ear level for me.

I really do like the bluetooth and the navi. I didn't think the navi would end up being something I would use, but I have ended up using it a lot. I also like the satellite radio and the auxiliary input for the iPod. Looking to get the windows tinted soon but an fearful of it interfering with the navi. I'll have to do some research on that.

One of the the BIGGEST things I like better is that the horn doesn't honk when I lock the doors/set the alarm. The "beep" is way better.

hey jwood -- meant to comment on the oil life...sorry.

i wouldn't think you should have too much concern. if you go on a truly 5,000 mile schedule, 10% of that life would be 500 miles. hitting 90% life remaining at 360 miles isn't all that much shy of 500. depending on your driving habits, it probably will average out some more.

i think i remember mine hitting 90% just shy of the 500 mile mark. most of that first 500 miles was highway miles.

How do you compare a Stock 06' TSX to your 04' Hondatafied car? Is the response in the new one as close your old 04' w/hondata?

Get Ceramic aka a non metalized tint for the rear window and you won't have an interference problems.

Nice Little write up J. I had an 06 AT loaner before and the engine was nice. I can only wonder what an 06 AT with SC would feel like!

Yea that is what i figured, but just thought i would ask around to make sure other people were experiencing something close to what i have going on! However, i'm the complete opposite with the pops and squeaks. My 04 had that EXACT same seat belt tensioner noise and it drove me NUTS for the same reason. The glove box rattled, the center console had a rattle and the windows would creak too BUT, i have no noises yet in the 06, so As for tint, the ceramic should be fine and cause no interferance just like kenny said

llJrockll - I never ended up going with the hondata so i don't know. I was going to and it got put on the back burner and then i got into the accident before i could act on it! But according to hondata, the reflashed 04 with intake and headers is = reflashed 06. I would think that the reflashed 04 AT with no other mod's would be about = 06 without reflash though. That VTEC surge really was drastic and if you look at hondata's website, the before and after dyno really shows the shot of power at 6100 RPM's!

Kenny - Thanks man, i would LOVE to know what it feels like too. Excelerate has that sale for the 04 supercharger and said that you could do it if you had an 06 MT, but would it work with an 06 AT the same way, just the paperwork??

I'm not sure if you can get the 06 AT SC Kit yet. Comptech doesn't have it listed on their website, but they told me a few months ago that they would be working on it. You might want to call them and find out for sure.

I believe I read in the service manual that maintenance intervals are based on RPM, not specifically mileage. So the more you rev the engine up, the sooner you'll need to perform maintenance.

Well, I don't know about an AT, but I should be able to tell you what an 06 MT feels like S/Ced in a few weeks ...

...and now that I think of it, are there any '06 S/Ced owners out there? Would I possibly be the first one?

Haha...My bad man! Didn't mean to take away from you enjoying your new 06. You should enjoy it as is, and then figure out what mod path you want later. I really liked the 06 when I had it as a loaner.

I haven't driven the pre-'06 TSX, but I have about 2000 miles on my '07 now. I'm finally warming up to it. I also think this is part of it breaking in. I was driving home from work today and I couldn't help but notice how amazingly smooth the excelleration and (AT) shifting was. I also noticed you get an extra 500 or 600 rpm in SS mode and it's a lot more fun.

I'm still tempted to say that I preferred the powerband of my old Mazda3, but under "average" acceleration, the TSX is better than any 4-cyl I've ever driven.

Also, I've learned to adjust the "fade" in the stereo to reduce the enormous bass coming from the rear speakers. The sound system really is awesome once you fine-tune it.

I love the NAVI but it nearly got me in an accident the other day. I was in San Francisco with friends. In the parking structure, The NAVI thought I was on a main street and was giving me directions. We were laughing because it wanted me to turn right into a wall. Coming out of the parking garage, the NAVI took way too long to recalculate our route now that we were on a real street. That few minutes meant I almost got onto the wrong freeway, and in my despiration, I cut off a Taxi to get out of that lane. It was partly my fault, but in a non-NAVI car I would have just payed attention to the road and none of it would have ever happened. This isn't the first time this has happened either, but the first time it almost got me in trouble. From now on, I am going to ignore my navi when I'm in the city.

Yea, i thought about waiting myself, but with the way the car was after the accident i just wanted to get rid of it. I bought a perfectly awesome car for a great price that i wasn't going to beat. The car is perfect for me, i only owe just under $5k, which i'll pay off by the end of the year, and it fits my needs perfectly.

Kenny - LOL, i was just giving you a hard time. I am planning on just enjoying it as is right now. I have a comptech icebox and rear sway bar sitting in my room from the 04 that i will put on soon, i also have 18" Ron Jon wheels being shipped that i bought for my 04, and i am going to be buying the Aspec suspension. After that, tint the windows, 3M lip spoiler and i honestly may just call it a done deal right there! MAYBE hondata if i have some money lying around, but i need to stop the car modding and stay with my school loans

Yea, the engine is loud because your still in the break-in process. It will quiet down as you put more miles on it!

I have only hit the redline about 3-4 times and i won't hit it again for awhile, but i couldn't wait anymore...lol
