04/05 vs 06+ TSX

Those of you who have owned a 04/05 TSX & a 06+ TSX, did you feel a performance difference between the different years? The 06 had a little more HP & Torque buy could that be felt when you gas it? How about the interior? Any difference in terms of materials?

The difference is very subtle, but can be felt. The difference is most noticeable when you need to accelerate quickly going up a grade (like merging onto an Interstate while climbing an incline) and also when VTEC kicks in. I wouldn't let it be a significant factor in deciding upon a model. To me, the big improvements in the latter model years were the memory seats, electric passenger seat, and heated mirrors.

The 06 has bluetooth, different (read: uglier) wheels and 5 more hp. Overall they are almost identical. I have an 06, never drove an 04/05. The 06 is worth it for the bluetooth alone if you ask me.

The performance difference is hardly noticeable between the two. I own an '04 but have had lots of time with '06+s as loaners. Materials are the same as well.

The differences in those areas are subtle, but as the others said the 06+ got many more "premium" options (love bluetooth!).

If you're trying to choose between the two, personally I'd recommend getting the cheaper one (probably the 05). I had the opportunity to get a few 05's from dealer auctions for ~$12k but like a dumbass decided to plop over $30k all said and done for an '08. I'm not sure why, but resale on TSX's isn't all that great...

That being said I love the premium options in the 06+. If I could go back though I'd pick up an 05 on the cheap so I could justify buying another toy next year..

I had an 05 and now have an 06. Performance difference is minimal and almost imperceptible. Interior is the basically same, but the blueteeth and the memory seats are AWESOME. Plus the AUX jack in the center console is nice to have. I like the wheels on the 06...

I think in 06 the center console area where the shifter and cup holders are, they changed the material to some sort of faux carbon fiber look, I'm not huge fan of it, and think it looks especially bad with the parchment interior (which I have in my 04).

Consumer Reports disagrees with you....

Not performance points, but:

No one seems to have mentioned the multi-information display (MID), which is a nicety. The 2005 (?) and onward offered XM, which is nice IF you do a lot of long-distance driving or local radio sucks in your area. Memory seats are nice (I've used one position to move my seat all the way up so that my little 'un can egress on the driver's side in the garage). HandsFreeLink is a godsend, I use it almost daily. I don't mind my wheels so much. Didn't EPA mileage estimates improve a smidgen in 2006?

In all, price and quality of an individual vehicle should guide you, but with all things equal, I test drove a 2005 and bought a 2006 and was delighted with the 2-3 extras that I discovered in it.

I don't think dealer auctions count as resale value. Auctions start low and hope that people auction and increase the price. Resale value is what a consumer would be willing to pay when buying from a dealer or private party. Your $12k price isn't an actual resale price.

If you don't think the TSX's resale value is good, go buy a ford and see how the resale value on that is.

+1000000 on the bluetooth. I use it almost every day. And from what my friends have told me, they can't tell when I'm on (unless I have the sunroof open or something like that. Memory seats are nice. I'm the only one who drives it regularly, but it's nice to have them for when somebody does move my seat for whatever reason. Factory fog lights are nice. Not a necessity, especially with HIDs, but nice nonetheless. MID and TPMS (not sure if that started in 06 or 07.) And I think I read somewhere that somebody said the steering wheel on the 06+ models was a bit more plush than the 04/05 models.

The 06+ blow the 04/05 away.

Better exterior (wheels inc.), bluetooth, MID, AUX, fogs, etc. They also resell at higher prices (not that i would want to sell it).

The better exterior/wheels comment is highly subjective but you are correct on the rest of your points.

I for one VASTLY prefer the stock 04/05 wheels, but that's a debate which has been done to death...

I've driven a loaner 07 a couple of times, but it was an automatic and my 04 is a modified 6MT, so I couldn't properly gauge any performance differences.

I test drove 3 tsx's, before I bought my 2006.

First one I drove 2005 TSX with Navi, 6spd. Car was super slow and I did not feel the vtec kick in.

Second car was my friends 2005 TSX non navi, auto. The car felt stronger than the first one I drove. I was about to buy a TL instead.

Third TSX i drove, the car overall felt stronger than both the 2005 tsx's I've driven. 2006 definately has more power above 2700 than the 2005 models. Vtec, is definately felt much stronger. The first 2005 6 spd, I drove probably was a beaten up lease vehicle, considering all the rock chips on the hood. It was in Jersey City at EMG car sales. DO NOT BUY that car, i floored the car to a lil past redline and still nothing, that car was by far the most weak one I've driven.

Also, I did not know about the bluetooth in 06 and up's, i thought they all had it. LOL. Glad i purchased the 06.

^^^its more like a 12-15hp boost because they changed the way HP was rated from 2005 to 2006.....the TL went from 270HP to 258 and the RL from 300 to 290 and the tsx gained 5hp so i would put the diff at about 12-15hp gain

I'd get an 06+ for reliability alone. 04's have many annoying problems.

But blow away 04/05's? Please.

TPMS came new in 2007. From what I hear, it's not a reason to get 2007 vs. 2006, particularly if you don't like those wheels.

Considering the growing complaints about the a/c compressor, it might be good to get a more recent (< 100,000 miles) model, at a good price, and add on an extended warranty that would cover that. Personal judgment prevails here, though.

I've always thought the 06 model year was the sweet spot in the 1st gen lineup. The 06 got the benefits of the power upgrades and the electronic gizmos over the 04/05. You can still reflash the 06, both MT & AT, whereas you can't reflash 07/08. And no TPMS to worry about. Two years after the initial TSX release the initial bugs have been worked out. And, compared to the 09, the wheels aren't that bad (and they're lighter than the 04/05 wheels).
