Is $80 worth it for ECU removal/install?

I'm planning to get the ECU reflash and the shop is willing to remove and install the ECU for $80, is it worth it?

Are they going to do the immobolizer too for $80?

I think the immobolizer is harder than the ECU. I would just DIY. It's not all that hard if you have the right tools.

I've removed the steering column before, that was a B!TCH!!!

Actually, the place has a dyno too, so I could get it all done at once there.

$80 includes the ECU and Immobilizer.

Well if you've already removed the steering column cover once, then I would just do it yourself. That's half of it right there. Just make sure you have the right screwdriver to take out the immobolizer. You need a short, stubby one.

IMO, the ECU isn't that bad to get out. I've taken mine out twice before. The only tip I would have is to unplug the harness before unbolting it.

All you need is a screwdriver and a socket wrench, it's not too tough at all if you have the proper instructions. There are some good DIYs on here. I did it myself when I was 16.

However, you will spend a fair amount of time on your back lying in uncomfortable positions, don't know if that's a problem for you or not.

I usually get my stuff from ExtremePSI (www.extremepsi.com) in Bensalem and they recommended me to go to R/T Tuning (http://www.rttuning.com/) in Lansdale.

I called them and I might just drop my car off and have them remove/install the ECU because I'm going to dyno my car before and after the reflash and leave it there for 3 days.

Good god, $80 bucks? That's borderline rape. An oil change is more trouble than the ECU/Immobilzer removal.
