97 3.2 TL Shocks $

Dealer wants $1000 to replace shocks on my 97 3.2 TL
Does anyone know if 97 accord shocks will fit?
Or a more cost effective solution than OEM shocks?
Thanks,
Doug

yeah the oem shocks are way too much...!

here are sprint shocks... not a bad price

Performance Center

also if you were going to plan on spending $1000.00 you might as well go with B+G coilovers (it's a complete system) springs and shocks!

B+G suspension kit

i bought one myself but never had have the chance to install it.... i'll just wait for the spring to intall the B+G coilovers

yes if you purchase the B+G coilovers S3 ... you'll get both the springs and shocks!!

coilovers in general are adjustable springs ... so you can adjust the height of your ride.

are the B+G coilovers for a 2.5 or 3.2? that makes a big difference. And no the accord struts will not fit your 3.2TL.

yes they will both fit!! ...the B+G S3 coilovers share the same part numbers for the 1st gen TLs and also the first gen CLs...

B+G S3 coilover part # GF-04.004

you can go to carparts.com ..... the link on this site and if you add to cart the B+G S3 coilovers for the 2.5 TL and 3.2 TL and the 3.2 CL you'll notice that all three share the same part number! wierd huh?

weird because i believe the entires suspension on a 2.5 and a 3.2 are different. the 2.5 and first gen cl are the same though.

AcuraSnake,
Thanks for the info and link to Performance Center.com. The Sprint shocks look like they will do just fine. Greatly appreciated!

The springs on the S3 Coilovers are not the same for the 3.2 and 2.5 TL's. I have a 3.2 and finally after the third set of springs got the right ones. I ordered my S3's from performance center under that same GF-04.004, but there are different springs that go with it. For the 3.2 you need the spring that is labeld 612.180.120. Initially I got the 180-70, drop my ride about 4.5". Next I got the 180-100, which was better, but not correct. Finally I got the 120's and it's just right....but it's a good drop still. The last 3 digit's refers to the spring rate, kg/cm. If you do the math between the 70's and 120, it compensates for the added weight of the 3.2. I have B&G's direct number if you need it. Mike, the applications guy is really good and is willing to work with you. He has not charged me anything for the 2 sets of springs he's sent out. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I have not completed the change over yet because on rear strut/wheel mount, the bolts are cold-welded into the nut. I can post pics of the front end right now, but I have not done a chamber adjustment yet. Overall, I'm not real happy with amount of drop. It's about 2.5" drop in the front, which does not leave much clearance between the wheel and fender...which is much more than the 1.1" they quote on-line. BTW, PerformanceCenter.com does not return these parts.

I'm going to send pics to B&G also for them to look at. I think that I can add a spacer on the spring to get an extra 1/2" of clearance. Any other suggestions are welcome.

Scruff,

even if you screw your perches all the way down its still too low? i've been looking into getting some gc coilovers but i read that they will blow the shocks sooner...can you post some pics of the drop you have?...btw, does your suspension squeak after you dropped it? thanks!

Yes, even with the collars screwed all the way up it's still low. After all the reading I did about other lowering springs and given that I needed to replace a shock anyway, I decided to go with a complete, tuned system for the following reasons...1. needed to replace a shock 2. lowering springs would wear out the factory shocks faster. 3. cost of new shocks + springs = B&G coilovers. I'll take pictures tonight hopefully. The front right squeaks a little, but I know that I don't have the top nuts on tight enough.

Also, I talked to B&G yesterday and the are looking into giving me a little longer helper spring. This spring is normally compressed which will give me about the 1/2 inch rise that I'm looking for.
