Trying to save my TL!
I bought a spotless 98' Acura TL for scrap pricing. I completed all the usual service for 200K and everything seemed OK. Initially it worked well but I did notice the high speed fans were always on when parking it after a drive. No biggie, they sure as hell shoe horned that V6 in there so I thought this might be normal. The the fun started...
She started overheating within 10 miles of driving and the blow off would vent hot steam to say the least. I didn't driver her long when that happened. I pulled over and let it cool and then limped back home.
Initial thoughts were that the head gasket was shot. However, the only time the fluid disappears is when the overheating event happens. If I drive it a bit before and not press it, she keeps the fluid. It gets better...
When the over heating event happens none of the fans work anymore. She just sits there steaming and no fans before or after. The fuses and fans were checked and appear to be okay. Also, the heater in the cabin does not get hot. Like there is a plug up of some kind before the heater coils. Initially she did not do this. It happens all the time now.
I've replaced the timing belt, all pulleys and belts, and thermostat. Nothing improved, she actually got even worse.
Any ideas would much be appreciated...As she sits now, it's a dead horse with gold teeth.
