I lifted my spare tire cover to check things out etc etc.
Theres 3 inches of water in there!
the gaskets seem okay and I cant find and rips or tears.
Any tips?

Sit in the trunk while someone else squirts water all over the trunk...

i had the same problem, well not 3 inches but there was at least an inch. all i can think of is moisture collecting over the last 9 years. i tooka sponge and sucked it up and then dried it with a towel.

ahh easier way is take the black rubber off, next to tires well drains quicker..and watever is left just damp it.

get a hose and slowly pour the water on the edge where the water runs down ..and you can check where its leaking...

mine was leaking for my taillight

I had the same issue with my car. When I removed the tail lights - the gaskets looked okay - no rips or tears as you said. But the issue is not ripping or tearing of the gaskets. The issue is that over time they get compressed and start to let water through. I would defintely re-examine the gaskets.

There are a couple of things you can do - all based on threads I've read here over time:
- Replace the gaskets - best solution and thats what I did
- Somebody pulled out his gaskets and put some kind of caulking material and stuck them back in. He reported success with this approach.
- Somebody made gaskets out of his mouse pad since he found it to be the same kind of material as his tail light gaskets. Go figure !!

Hope that helps....

when i changed the tailights on my second gen i realized that there was a slight gap.. after i would wash my car there would be water under my spare.. eventually i just put some silicone in the seam and now its all good.

you might want to check that.

By chance, I was putting in a cargo net the other night and in the process discovered water. Dried it out, and planned on watching it, spraying water, etc. Will check the lights early in the process, thanks.

am i the only one with little holes under the spare tire?

of course getting to the root of the problem just take the advice of these previous replies, just chill in your trunk with a light while someone sprays water on it, get to the root!

mine does the same thing...my carpet and my spare tire room is getting soaked. alll my seals are fine and i cant figure out where the water is coming from. i tried shutting the trunk and pouring water on it and opened it and it was dry but when it rains it gets soaked so the only other thing i can think of is maybe its coming in througg the tail light houseing

yes, it's comming from the tail lights, replace the seals /gaskets, or do what I did, I put selicon sealent around the old gasket. It has not leaked over two years now.
