Torn leather seats

I started out from a little tear to a big RIP! For those of you who have torn seats, what do you do prevent it from ripping further??

I've got a small tear in my driver's seat now also. I know it's a 14 year old car and I kept it in the driveway for around 7 years but it still bugs me. I did try to keep it hydrated, but you could see the cracking long before it finally tore. It'll probably cost an arm and a leg to get an upholstery place to replace the bad part and it probably won't match. I've seen used seats on Ebay before. I wonder if the passenger seat can be switched for the driver's seat?
