sporadic high-pitched whirring noise
I have a 97 2.5 TL What is causing the sporadic high-pitched whirring noise which usually last from 2 to 10 seconds, comes from the rear of the engine compartment or just inside the dash and usually shuts off when I turn off the heater/ac unit? This is a loud noise that stops people on the street.

Well I'm not sure if you're talking about the same sound that I'm thinking about, but I had a problem where there was an embarrassingly nasty sound that was coming from under the car when the a/c fan was running. Luckily it was an easy fix. What was vibrating was the heat shield under the car, which rusted and burned off some of the bolts which caused the vibration. If you go to any small shop they should take it off for you in 2 minutes for a couple of bucks.

That was what mine sounded like.... it was the condenser fan and it ended up going out and somehow popped my radiator and cost me a new motor. Sounded like it was something else but it was the fan on the drivers side...check it!
