Power steering issue

Checked the P/S fluid tonight seems its not that beautiful clear pinkinsh color I usually see, but now its more amber with a burnt smell.
Also when I turn my wheel I hear a little buzz and of course my steering is stiffer.
Pump or Rack?

Can I rebuild either one, or do I need Merlin,Gamdalf and Criss angel to help?

Thanks

is the buzz coming from the ps pump??? is it squeaking or even slows down when you lock the wheel in one direction???

Well my guess for the problem would be you're expecting a pinkish color. A lot of manufacturers do use ATF for the power steering but Honda has their own fluid which would be almost clear with a very slight brown tint to it. You might want to flush the system to try and solve the problem before replacing or rebuilding parts.

Thats what I did.
I flushed and replaced with clear Honda PS fluid. when i bought the car they had used American fluid or maybe even Trans fluid, Gawd knows what those cheap bastards did.
The noise is intermittent, and seems only to occure when the car has warmed completly up.
Looks like Lucas time for me......

PS A PS pump here in Canada is 499 plus 100 core and a steering rack is 599 150 core. Wonder if I can rebuild these myself?

Well you could try having someone rotate the steering wheel while you listen closely to the pump. I would imagine that's what it is but you can't really rule the rack out.
