Please help check engine light comes on and starts flickering rapidly

Hello I have a 96 Acura tl 2.5. The car runs fine until it warms up and the check engine light turns on. The car won't go over 3000 rpm and runs really rough. When I shut the car off I can't start it up again because the check engine light starts flashing really fast. I have to wait untill it cools down a little. Not sure what the problem is and I tried connect the scanner and no codes show up. I also changed the main relay and no difference.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

blinking check engine light---its says on the web..misfire..check your spark plugs and distributor cap.

If the car wont go pass 3,000 i have the feeling its the idle control valve or the throttle sensor.

Take your car to an Auto BM store and have it checked for free. Autozone, Advance Auto, O'Reilly's, they will do it.

If there is no code, those clowns at the chain autoparts stores will have no clue. Sometimes they have no clue even when there is a code. As stated above, a flashing MIL generally means a misfire has been detected. If it won't go over 3K rpm the system has determined that it's severe enough to go into what's sometimes referred to as 'limp home mode'. Likely because the misfire is bad enough to potentially allow unbured fuel in to the exhaust and cause catalytic converter or other emissions control system damage. There is no simple or magic answer, however, as a misfire can be caused by several different things. Spark plug(s), coil(s), fuel injector(s), wiring to fuel injectors, timing belt, vacuum leak, IAC actuator/valve/solenoid, bad EGR valve, bad fuel pump, weak compression, low fuel pressure, etc. You need further diagnostics by someone with the proper equipment and knowledge. Otherwise, you're just throwing parts at it and, as you probably know, that can become expensive quick, especially on these cars! Surprising that you have a MIL without a code. Maybe the OBDII system in a first gen TL isn't as sophisticated as in newer vehicles.

There doesn't appear to be a lot of activity in the 1st gen area. Many of the threads have responses that wake them from the dead. The last two comments, which are what I responded to, were only a couple of days old.
