80K miles on my 98 3.2 and my CEL turmed on this morning.

P0153 O2 Sensor Circuit Slow response (Bank 2 Sensor 1)

Help!

I cleared the code by using an OBDII reader.

I have not used the car yet.

Thanks in advance.

Both sides (O2 sensors) were replaced by Acura about 2.5 years ago, when the car was 60K miles.

Does this mean I have to replace this O2 sensor again?

It's likely the sensor is faulty or contaminated. I would suggest pulling the sensor connector, checking, and cleaning any oil or dirt. Reset ECU and see if same code appears. If yes, a new sensor is indicated.

good luck

You don't pull the sensor. If it's contaminated, it can't be cleaned to my knowledge. Occasionally, dirt and oil will contaminate the connector to the O2 sensor and cause the signal to be degraded. Only disconnect the connector, clean contacts, reconnect, and reset ECU.

ECU is reset by pulling the BackUp fuse in the underhood fuse box for 20 secs, or disconnecting battery negative cable for 20 secs. You will need radio code to restart radio and all radio presets will be lost.

If code comes back, you'll need to replace the O2 sensor at that time.

good luck

How much is a sensor? Is it the same as the left anf right side? I have cleared ty code through an OBD II code reader, is this not enough? I need to reset the ECU? Thanks.

No, resetting w/ a code reader is fine.

O2 sensors range from $25-$100, depending on whether they are direct replacement (wire harness complete) or universal (cut/splice wires required).

Check ebay and internet for range of prices and products.

good luck

Thanks...so, I was due for an Air filter change anyway, I replaced the air filter, applied some electrical connection paste (usually used for bulb connections) on the O2 sensor connector.

Cleared the code through the OBDII, took the negative terminal 1 minute.

The CEL has not lit back up, one day of use.

We will see.

Thanks again.

Where do you guys get your O2 sensors? I have been checking OEM Denso O2 sensors, they are like $120 from ebay re-sellers. Dealer wants $200+. I see replacement O2 sensors at $50 shipped, non OEM, universal type.

I have same code. It all started after I washed engine bay couple of weeks ago. First time it came ON with half mile drive after I washed the engine. I cleared it right away. Now it came back ON again after 2 weeks or so.. Looks like I have to take the connector off to clean it up..

Mine has not returned for some time, knock on wood. I usually apply a thin coat of bulb grease on the connector.
