odd mpg

so, after i put that seafoam cleaner into my gas two weeks ago, i noticed on that tank that i was gettin good mpg. well i had gotten on it a few times, etc. etc. and ended up with 21.xx mpg. not great, but not horrible i spose.

well, after a fill up last weekend, i headed down to a town bout 30 miles away. long story short, ended up chasing a chevy celebrity around the town after these kids shot fireworks at my buddy's horses. i chased em for about 20 minutes, and i was not kind on the gas. they tried to outrun me several times (heh, duh) and we ran 80+ several times. hard braking, hard accelerating, all that. anyhoo....for the rest of the tank, i just did basic driving, and some highway. i ran my a/c lots cuz it was super hot and/or super humid last week.

ANYWAYS, so i fill up yesterday and figure my mpg.....23.xx!! wth. did that seafoam just kick in? or does my car just like the lead foot? i'm psuedo baffled by this.

Hmmm.. sounds strange to me.

You should try cleaning your throttle body. Maybe there is some gunk in there.

It might require a gentle toothbrush scrubbing, just to get some of the crap out. Use carburateur (sp?) cleaner on it and that should do the trick.

Driving harder could have helped with the seafoam and getting it to work. Higher RPMs and more heat may have done the trick for you. I think it is good to do stuff like that once in a while to help and try and avoid getting carbon deposits and the like.

Also, although you drove really hard for that 20 minutes, if you drove relatively well for the rest of the tank, including some highway, 23mpg sounds about right.

The A/C doesn't really have a huge effect on gas milage, at least not that I have found.

The biggest three things that have helped my gas milage are: Correct tire pressure, gentle driving, and FP60 http://www.lubecontrol.com/

One thing that helps me get good MPG results... low rolling resistance tires. In my case, I have a set of Toyos that have decent noise, grip and wear levels.

and the specs on those tires are???... C-mon ken... we all want our car like yours... 30+ mpg...

i wouldn't know what that seafoam is all about but i might have to try it... maybe driving it a bit hard gave it that little push to kick in... but i wouldn't know...

seafoam is just an engine 'cleaner'. like fuel injector cleaner and then some...all wrapped into one. seems to have helped some.

Thats a C32A6 motor from a Legend, but for the 3.2 TL it will do nicely.

Just follow your intake to where it meets the metal. Take off the intake hose(s), unscrew a few things and then you'll have a giant hole where the air goes through

just do cold air on your legend. Ram air for a civic si is cold air for legend, should fit(did on a friends). Any full throttle on my 2.5 eats up crazy gas, and i dont get to good of gas when i drive gentle but there is a hell of a differernce. any reccomendation to improve gas milage

One big mistake people make with cars.. they put HEAVY wheels and supersticky summer tires on and wonder why their car gets 20 mpg.

Not saying anyone in particular in here does this, but I know its a possibility for some of ya

Wouldn't the air filter protect from dust coming in the intake? Why would gunk be found in the throttle body if it is at that location.? thanks

Yes it does prevent dust. Good question as to why the throttle body needs cleaning, I cant give you a decent reason why.

Any takers?

Yeah, I asked in the Legend forums and a European member was nice enough to send me a picture, hence the "Honda Legend" you see there.

I'm guessing it was MikeD from germany?

When my friend got his legend the first thing I noticed was the strut bar and always wondered if it fits. One of these days when I got access to the TL and he's available I'll test it out. The only thing that covers the holes where the bar bolts down is like electrical tape...
