need advice on 96 2.5TL

Check engine light on. Parts store shows code 1382-Crankshaft positioning sensor. Anyone ever replaced this sensor? Is this a difficult job? Should this be done by A mechanic?

If you have a Volt-Ohm Meter (VOM) you can check the resistance of the sensor on the L shock tower (6 pin connector). Check the Orn and Yel/Grn wires to the sensor. Resistance should be 0.5-1.0 kohms. If sensor checks good look for a wiring or connector fault. If it checks bad the sensor will need to be replaced.

Bad news is this requires removal of timing belt. This is a fairly demanding job and requires advanced DiY skills.

If resistance at shock tower checks good, you should check resistance at the ECU connector under the dash. If these also check good, the ECU may be damaged. I had to replace ECU on my 2.5TL due to a circuit board fault.

good luck
