More dam problems...Whistling noise from engine

Well here we go more problems..My Tl is making strange noise from the engine. It sounds like whistling /air pump. The noise is coming from the engine somewhere around the oil filter location. Also the noise is loud once I start the car, once i get into higher rpms it gets quieter and disappears slowly after about half hour of driving, sometimes it doesn’t disappear and sometimes it goes away in 1 minute after starting the car. Also my car drives just fine; performance is the same.Any ideas what can it be?I am totally clueless…
Any has any idea what can it be?

Crack in intake duct might produce a whistling noise as air rushes by the small opening. You might try spraying throttle body cleaner about the duct, throttle body, and intake manifold. A leak will pull the TB cleaner in and cause an idle speed change.

good luck

so do you think TB cleaner will solve the problem or will i need a new intake manifold?

the cleaner is just to check the manifold, that wont ever "fix" anything. if its cracked you could just get it welded

so i just take oof my intake, spray inside the manifold and wait if the RPMs shoot up?

ive never tried that way, but i understand the concept. i think thats what he meant. if i were you i would just take off the manifold and quit beating around the bush you'll find it that way and will be able to fix it right there vs. finding it which is very difficult due to lack of space and noise, then remove and fix.

Thats true but i just want to make sure thats really the problem before taking the manifold off..
Another thing i am thinking to do is: my friend is building an 800 hp evo and he just bought a kit to port/polish; i am thinking to just buy a manifold from the junkyard and do it to the manifold and throttle body;
The question is whether it is worth it or not and how bad is it to drive with cracked manifold?

^ its not a bad job taking it off. with it off you can easily and effectively inspect the whole surface of the manifold and if thats not cracked you can easily inspect all of the vacuum lines, etc.

it seems like removing the manifold is inevitable, unless you a real good listener for mysterious sounds.

doing this will really show you whats up with your engine, if you do remove it i also suggest replacing the filter base gasket. $8, usually takes 2-3 hours. it will take 5 when the manifold is off. clean egr ports, reclace old radiator hoses, etc.

So i dont think my manifold is cracked; also the noise is more chattering than whistling
Any other ideas?

I had a problem like this and it ended up being my crankshaft pulley.

Check all the pulleys. I had this problem last week and it ended up being the A/C compressor pulley.

I'll have them checked out after work;I dont get how can the pulleys effect the engine noise? the noise is definately coming from inside the engine
