Losing acceleration after engine warms up
Losing acceleration after engine warms up
I have a '97 Acura 2.5 TL. Cold start she idles great, has pickup and shifts perfectly...until engine gets to temperature then it idled so low I had to keep a foot on the brake and accelerator at the same time to keep it running. When I release the brake to accelerate, engine seems like its trying to rev but not getting acceleration when it finally gets to speed to shift gears it hits in hard. Zero to 20 in a minute. Let it cool off and turn it back on no problem, until it gets up to temperature. Any ideas on what could be causing this?
Check all your fluids first of all coolant, tranny fluid, oil, etc. has nothing to do with this but also check differential fluid mine was bone dry. Then I suspect fuel/air combination low idle to me sounds like not enough air pressure. Here's a few things I did check every (I mean Every) vacuum hose, you know those pesky little hoses everywhere. Check idle air control valve take it off spray throttle body cleaner inside the two holes until no black carbon comes out then let it dry for about half an hour. Next check your EGR system is it completely clogged? Grab the vacuum line off the EGR valve with engine running the engine should try to "choke" if not check the vacuum in the vacuum line to the EGR valve if there is vacumm then most likely EGR system is clogged that is if you alredy cleaned EGR valve of carbon build-up. Also, check your gas filter is it completely clogged? Sounds stupid but on my part I didn't change it for a long time and the result was a bad fuel pump, indications were shitty driving conditions especially when hot. I guess it caused overload on the pump due to it being clogged and all. These are just a few try switching up your gas also don't buy cheap gas, "not saying you do", if none of this works have to checked the gap on your spark plugs is it correct. I had a mechanic slap some on because he was doing other work and he never checked the gap cause shitty driving conditions as well. Trust me doing your own work helps narrow down the problems with your car every time. You have the 2.5 I suspect something to do with the distributor. Hope this helps in some way.
