Question insulate the sunroof

Sigh! The first hot and sticky summery/spring day and no air conditioning. I'm told the air conditioning clutch is gone and it will cost $700+ to fix it. I guess this summer you'll know me when you see someone driving with their head out the driver's side window, tongue flying in the breeze to keep cool.

One thing I do know is a sunroof contributes a lot of heat to the car. I need to insulate it to keep the car inside a bit cooler. Has anyone done this? The ideal would be something that can go on the dark glass outside the car to reflect the sunlight. Any ideas?

Thanks

I'm not sure why you are even thinking of doing something else besides closing the sun roof visor inside your car; it will solve your issue.

even with the sunroof closed I find the panel hot. That black glass attracts heat. Actually I may have found the beginning of an answer - i bought a $1.25 foil sun reflector that you normally would put on your window. Its from the Dollarstore so you know that it's thin and it is thin enough to fold over and slip between the glass and the sliding panel. After trying it the temp on the inside of the car dropped 9'C. I'm going to try two together and see if that makes it better. I'm in southwestern Ontario and our summers are hot, humid, and sunny so anything that cools the car is a good thing.

Well now I stand corrected, way to be innovative. I'm in scotia we don’t have such problems with extreme heat.
